We are first time cruisers going on the December 18th 11 day cruise, so this question may seem silly to some. We are reading a lot about magnetic door signs. What is their purpose and how do we get them?

Their main purpose is to decorate your door to make it easier to find (especially helpful if you have kids).

You design it yourself so it can have as much or as little info on it as you want.

You can use a program like Microsoft Word or any publishing or paint program. You buy magnetic paper at your local office supply dealer and print it out on that.

I just noticed you will be on our sailing - the December 18th 10 day. Have you checked out our thread on the meets board? Lots of great people there.

Here is a link 10 Day Holiday Cruise

We made ours using magnetic paper that you can buy at most stores that carry computer supplies, OfficeMax Wal-Mart, Target, etc.. Used some clip-art that we downloaded from various internet sites.

We did it to make the room easier to find for our kids & they enjoyed putting them on the door.

I'm making magnetic door signs for some of the people on my Cruise Meets thread. Some people don't have the time or software programs to do their own. You might find someone on your Cruise Meets thread who is doing that, if you don't want to make one yourself.

Wow, that's a great door sign! How did you get those little Mickey's that almost appear to be part of the paper?

I'm not creative at all and have been having a hard time. I also could not find the magnetic paper at my Walmart on Friday.:(

We actually didn't use magnetic paper for ours. I just used card stock and then I had this roll of magnetic tape. I just cut off a piece for the top and the bottom of the sign and it worked great. I can't remember for sure where I got the magnetic tape, but it might have been Hobby Lobby.

beattyfamily ~ Thanks! I found the faded Mickey icon background on the internet somewhere (it was a long time ago) and just "put it behind" everything else on my sign. Actually, most people who have ordered signs from me didn't want the background.

I get my magnetic paper from Wal-Mart too. It's made by Avery and should be right next to the photo paper and card paper. If you can't find it and have a Michael's craft store near by you could get magnetic frames. They are just like the magnetic sheets, but they have a clear plastic pocket that you slide a regular 8 1/2 x11 piece of paper into.

They add just a little bit more to the magic of your cruise. VerandahMan was gracious enough to make one for our family. It had a picture of Minnie and Mickey and siad somethng like "Stevens Cabin" "Only family and Disney characters allowed". My DS6 had no idea until the day of the cruise and he was stoked when he saw it. He still has it on his bedroom door. - Mike

I'm not using anything special; I "saved" images from the clip art site http://clipart.disneysites.com/display.php?catID=157&page=8 and edited it using the "paint" program already on my pc (I'm sure it's on yours too!). Maybe others have some suggestions that will make for a more professional look?...

mickey minder ~ Yes, I'm still taking orders for signs. :D

Meshee ~ I use Microsoft Greetings Workshop to make my signs.

I am hoping to figure out how to make a "Happy Birthday" sign for my twin daughters' birthday (the second day of our 7 night Eastern cruise).

I don't suppose anyone has a 'generic' Happy Birthday on the Disney Cruise sign without dates or individual pictures of people that could be used by anyone on any cruise for a birthday?

If so, I would love to be able to just 'print it off' for my girls.

Thanks!

DJ - I will be happy to send you what I made for David (he likes the princesses). You can use it if you wish.

Our table mates for the Magic this past July had a great door!! Their door was "covered" (and I mean covered) with the magnetic words you can buy....the random words that you create messages, poetry, sentences, etc out of. They (our table mates) said it was so funny when they would be in their cabin and they would hear this "clicking" noise. It was people stopping by and creating sentences, etc out of them!! We left them messages a few times. We were told that CMs stopped as well.

It was a great and fun idea! ::yes::

i use the print shop version 20 and it takes me 15-20 minutes to make

I'm assuming the back of the door doesn't have any sort of surfacing or veneer that makes it less magnetic than the front, and I want to bring a magnetic message board to put on the back of the door.

Is there anything on the back of the door that prevents using a magnetic board? Are there framed notices or anything that would get in the way?

There were several rooms on our cruise last week that had doors decorated with magnetic signs and they were darling. I took a four tiered windsock type thing with different kinds of fish and used wire to wrap it around the metal cabin number on the wall. It was 3-D and got lots of compliments, plus made our door very easy to find, since it wasn't flat against the wall.
