My family will be a first-time cruisers in Jan. 2024 and we joined a magnet fish extender group for our cruise as I thought it would be an easier one for our first time. Now I'm having trouble with what we are supposed to give in this group, obviously magnets but more specifically? In the group there is everyone listed individually by stateroom, are we supposed to give magnets individually or one per family? Everyone's favourite character is also listed, should we give character specific magnets? Should we give cruise specific magnets (dates, names, pixar day at sea)? Someone mentioned giving magnets from our home, which would probably be unique but may not be very meaningful to the receiver? Sorry for all the Questions I just really want to give something unique and that everyone will love! Thanks!

Every FE group sets their own "rules" as to giving.

That said, typically, you can choose whether to give per room, per person, or whatever. As to the specific magnet I'd say the character suggestions are good, but IMO you're not locked into that. You can give whatever magnets you wish.

I did a magnet exchange on my last cruise.
The magnets I gave were home made. I made a design on Canva, a free online graphic design program I use for work. I then put that design into Vista Print, an online print company and made magnetic postcards. I am in Europe and it cost me €10 for 10 magnets. I kept one magnet for myself and gave 1 magnet per stateroom in my group. The design I made had the ship name, itinerary and date of the cruise.

Magnets I received in my exchange
  • A shop bought souvenir magnet from where the giver lived
  • Homemade magnets, like the ones I made,
  • Some printed on a home printer, lamented and crafting magnets stuck on the back
  • Some magnets had my name on them, some didnt.
  • I was on a 25th Anniversary Cruise and many of the magnets mentioned this.
  • Some had Disney characters.
Theres really no rules, its just a fun exchange, you dont have to spend a lot of money and its not about having professional shop standard magnets. The names are just suggestions, as some people like to personalize the gifts they give. The characters are just suggestions as some people like to put characters on gifts they give.

Don't worry about what the people you give them to will think, make or buy magnets that you would like to receive.

Most of the magnets I got in the exchange I did were from the givers home town/state/country and then a few Disney ones storebought and some handmade. All were awesome!
