We just got back from a 4-day cruise to the Bahamas on the Magic, and we had a great time. We had room 2128, an oceanview stateroom with a big porthole. No problems. Everything seemed as fresh and new on the Magic as when we were on the Fantasy just six weeks after her maiden voyage.
Of course, I made some awesome magnets to decorate our door...the disboards artists are inspirational!
Our cabin host, Edwin, was wonderful. But of course that is to be expected. His service and the service of all the CMs was peerless as usual. Were going back for the Transatlantic/Mediterranean and will be staying in this very room. Some might say its noisy but I sleep with the television on so a bit of vibration/grinding occasionally isnt bothersome to me. I like being aft and the staterooms location was great. Laundromats right down the hall, quick ride up to Cabanas, etc. The beds were sooooo comfy, too.
Up on deck the aquadunk was front and centernot something Id ever try but my husband tried it and loved it. My daughter, who adores the aquaduck, went on once, but not again, because she said it was too scary. The other new slide on the boat was more to her liking, but I think after the cruises this summer were going to concentrate on Dream/Fantasy itineraries.
The food was generally greatLumieres is the standout as a restaurant as far as were concerned. The Chateaubriand was a incredible.
However I also liked my salad nicoise.
Dont bother with the fried brie, though. It was odd. Panko bread crumbs on brie? ???
Animators Palate was kind of a letdown after being on the Fantasy, but was still interesting. I was hoping for the rock shrimp cheesecake (I think thats itwe had it on the Fantasy) but no luck. Cariocas was hit and miss. The empanadas and the avocado salad and porkbelly were the dishes to get there. Dont miss any of them. But in general the cuisine was not my daughters or husbands cup of tea.
At Castaway Cay my daughter and husband rode bikes and had a great time, but there was spitty rain the whole time, which is not great beach weather. Still, we had a great time. And the ship is so beautiful sitting there docked. Especially after seeing her lined up against the other ships at Nassau, I just have to reinforce that point. There are no ships that compare to the Disney ships.
Just our luck, while coming back from Castaway Cay, we met some friends!
In Nassau my husband and daughter had the opportunity to cancel the Atlantis Excursion because of high wind. My daughter was okay with it and I was especially fine with it because that saved us more than $300. My daughter and husband were going to go and it was $169 a person. My husband and I ended up going into Nassau for about an hour and I really dont ever need to go there again. I wasnt very impressed.
On the sea day we did a lot of activities and just relaxed. My husband and I had some EXCELLENT half-price mojitos at the pool, and the waiter asked us about our particular tastes and so we got drinks that were bracing and not oversweet. My daughter and I made a tote bag. My husband went to see Mr. Banks. I played 80s music trivia in OGills and won a keychain. Of course I lost $50 at Bingo but it was fun anyway. I really liked the fact that I could just hang out in OGills and get no pressure to purchase a drink. In fact, I wanted one and was about to go to the bar when the waiter showed up. The drinks are also pretty reasonable by bar standards, and are NOT watered down. $5.95 for a nice bahama mama is pretty fair. The mojitos were eight bucks but again we got them for half price.
The only possible fly in the ointment was the Edgethey did not seem to hold to Navigator times to start/stop activities. My daughter would arrive a bit early for an activity only to be told that the activity had started (and its hard to join a scavenger hunt in progress). Another time a CM never arrived and so the activity never began at all. We double-checked the times so ???
All in all we loved our cruise and were sorry to leave and are looking forward to getting back on in May!
