Magicbands on cancelled reservation?

We had a room only booked at POFQ, but ended up cancelling that and renting dvc points at last minute. No time for new magic bands. I was curious if the MBs they sent for the FQ reservation are still active or if they deactivate them when you cancel a reservation. Anyone know?

The magic bands are linked to your MDE account, not a room reservation. The bands will be fine to use as long as you have tickets linked to your MDE account.

Go in MDE, click "My Magic Bands and Cards", then verify that the bands are active. They should be unless you've deactivated them.

True, correct me if I am wrong though, they are not going to work for opening the door at the resort because the new reservation will be in the DVC owners name

No, the DVC owner should put it in their names. At least every time I've rented, it's been in our names and is linked to our MDE profile.

Magic bands(MB) are always issued in one persons name, and that magic band will remain in that persons name forever or until the battery/chip stops working. Canceling a reservation has no effect on the magic band and in fact I have reused old magic bands on my trips and I always carry a few old ones with me whenever I go to Disney, just in case I lose one.

When you book your reservation through either CRO(cash reservation office) or MS(DVC member services) you always want to make sure that all of the guests staying in the room are listed because those are the only people who can gain access to the room via their magic bands. When someone scans their MB at the room door to gain access to the room, the computer is checking that the person associated with that MB is listed on the reservation for that room for that day before it will open the door. The computer does not care that the MB was issued to Bob Smith in 2014 for his 7 day trip to the Poly, or yesterday...only that Bob Smith is listed on the reservation for that room, for that resort, for that day. The computer also does not care that the person on the MB is a DVC owner, renter, cash purchaser or whatever...if ya ain't on the reservation...ya aint' gettin in, period !!!

Thanks all I just didn't know if disney cancelled or deactivated MBs for cancelled reservations, but doesn't sound like it. The kids were excited about the new style and wanted to be able to use the colors they picked. Now just 8 more days!

If you are collecting colors, it sounds like you did it too close to customize more bands and pick them up but you'll have grey ones waiting for you at the front desk. they won't be customized but they are more bands in grey to add to the collection or mix and match colors with.

edit: while most don't want the grey with the mix and matching of the icons, it makes more sense for color choices.

When you rent a room from a DVC member, they list the names of the people that will occupying the room. The renter would not be able to check in otherwise.
