First, I saw on the website that ONLY magicband+ are used at DL. Is that true?? I love using my old bands at WDW but I don't want to buy new ones for a 2 day trip to DL. My main concern is getting the ride photos captured without the bands. I am getting genie+ and get the free ride photos so I don't want to miss out. Help!!

It is true that DLR only uses the MB+ units. You do not need one though and can still get everything. You will need to check the photo-boards after the ride and get the number to match your photo to your Photopass. Most people snap a pic of it and enter them later. Honestly, I am not even sure that DLR uses the automatic readers if you have MB+ anyway, so you might still have to do it.

Whether you have MB+ or not, Disneyland does not have ride capture for photos.

Okay, that's what I thought, but wasn't 100%. It's amazing, WDW can now do that with just your phone, if your phone supports that and you have the settings active. DLR is way behind with the monitor/number system.

To summarize what the others have said.

Disneyland: MagicBand (original or 2.0) does absolutely nothing, at all. Just leave it at home. MagicBand+ works for MagicBand+ things, but not for photo capture.

Walt Disney World: MagicBand works for everything, including photo capture, but only if the battery isn't dead. MagicBand+ works for everything, including photo capture, but only if the battery isn't dead. Your phone's Bluetooth will also work for photo capture if your band's battery is dead or you don't have a band at all.

Regular MagicBands, used at WDW, don’t have batteries.
They do for automatic ride photo linking, and if more than two years old likely will not have your ride photos for Snow White, Haunted Mansion, and Dinosaur (not sure what else "auto-links"). The puck in the middle has a battery.

We found this out the hard way after already paying for memory maker.

Battery isnt required for close communication such as tapping though.

On my June 2023 Disneyland visit I had Genie+ and a Magicband+

I have previously used Genie+ at Disneyland without a Magicband+

The photopass barcode will appear in the app. Screencap this barcode. When you get photos taken by the Disney photographers around the park, they will either scan this barcode in the App OR scan the Magicband+.

At Buzz Lightyear you can email the onride photo to any email account. You do not need to pay for it or link it to your Genie+ photopass.

For the other on ride photos you need to link it to your Genie+ photopass.

They do, but you cannot charge or replace them, so when they're dead, they're dead. They will still work for all tap features when the battery dies though.

And you don't need photo pass or Gennie + for ride photos. They are currently free. I just learned this and was shocked. But if you enter the code into the app, you will get them which is so cool. One thing is still free!!! (Of course I think there are only two ride photos in DL and maybe three in DCA? Splash (which is down), Space Mtn, Guardians, RSR, and Incredicoaster.) At least for now, they are free until Disney changes it.

They announced this as part of the Disney 100 celebration last year but seemed to have forgotten to turn it off. No one say anything.
