Magicband+ Support, Questions, Comments, and (please not many) Gripes

MB+ does not currently play well with Android Devices. Apparently Disney thinks everyone owns an Iphone. Band is active but will not connect to android device.
really??? have you tried with other devices? I can't believe they would do that.

Erika’s article mentioned how the new band drained her iPhone battery. I had not thought about that - portable chargers are a must now. I think I will get a fuel rod in the park this time so that I can exchange it if necessary.
UGH. This does not make me happy. Luckily our touring style should allow me charging time and I do have a couple of good external chargers. I'm there next week and will report back!

My understanding is that this is specific to the Galaxy's Edge game.

That's not a thing.

Technologically speaking, that's not a thing. Literally impossible.

Yes, the Play Disney Parks app is a giant battery suck, but that's been true since 2018. People are blaming MB+ for non-MB+ related things.
I wouldn't be using the app without a MB+ so this seems like a nit picky thing to chastise people for. I appreciate the heads up, which will allow me to be better prepared.

The vast majority of the app's functionality has nothing to do with MB+, and the vast majority of MB+ functionality has nothing to do with the app.

Play Disney Parks will kill your phone battery without MB+.

MB+ will not kill your phone battery without Play Disney Parks.

so this seems like a nit picky thing to chastise people for.
I didn't chastise anyone, I corrected misinformation.

If someone says "the cake is poison," when in reality, the ice cream is poison, would your response be "I appreciate the heads up that the cake is poison," when it isn't? Lots of people might want to eat ice cream without cake or cake without ice cream, and would like the real story on which of the two is harmful.

I understand everything you so kindly explained to me. I'm saying that I wouldn't be using the Play app if I didn't need it for my MB+, which is still a fact, just like everything else you said. Nothing I said contradicts what you said.

If I really wanted the cake, but the only way to get the cake was to eat the poisoned ice cream, then I want to know that I need to take the posion's antidote so that I can have both.

Your objection only holds up if we assume that everyone reading this is like you and will only use the App and the MB+ in conjunction with one another. For anyone who might use them independently from one another, the distinction matters.

Anywho, back to the topic at hand, @Jonfw2, have you seen anything credible commenting on the battery life of the band itself in a typical use environment? I know Disney says 1-3 days, and I know some people are upset that the bands don't come out of the box on a full charge, but is there a consensus around the battery life of a fully charged and updated band with typical use?

I know we saw one tweet saying it was dead in two hours but I'm highly skeptical of that tweet for a lot of reasons.

My suspicion of the "dead in two hours" is that that person ripped it out of the box at the park and was on a very minimal charge to start.

But specifically, no- I haven't heard anything about how long it lasts. I think it's going to depend a ton on how it's used.

One of the blogs I follow said that one of their bands went from "full" to low and one went from "full" to partial after playing in Batuu for 90 minutes. Their commentary was that "full" probably means different things unless you've been charging for a considerable amount of time. Obviously, that isn't typical use, but I thought it was helpful.

I'll do my best to give you my real world experience on this when I go next week.

I’m still waiting on mine to get here, but I had a question. I bought one of the fancier magic bands for our trip last June and literally halfway through my trip, I was on Expedition Everest and I hit my wrist against the edge of the car I was in and my band flew off on the top and they never recovered it. Does Disney sell anything you can use to make the band more secure? I don’t want to lose this one.

No. But there are instructions that come with it that tell you how to take the sensor off the band itself if you want to use it in a different way- like put it into a lanyard or secure it otherwise.

My understanding is that since there’s only one operating system for Apple devices, it’s easy for software engineers to write code to link their apps to Apple devices. OTOH, because there are multiple Android OSs, it’s more difficult and takes longer to write code for new apps to “play well” with all Android devices.

No, but you can find Magic Band savers on Amazon that are little rubber pieces that secure the band from popping off.

Cruise Line uses them, but I don't think there's any way to buy them.

I just got the one I ordered. I pressed the button once, and it flashed green. But everything says tap it to your phone. I do that and NOTHING happens!! HELP!
That was fast!!! Glad you got it to work. My band is still "processing". I still have some time before we leave.....
