Hi! My extended family is considering a magical gathering and I had heard mixed reviews about them. Anyone have a really good or bad experience to tell me about? What are the big benefits?

Thanks!

There have been mixed reviews on them. I for one would still love to try one. However, we're going to be 1 short for us.

Looks like we're not having too much luck finding someone for you, Inga, who has actually done a Magical Gathering. I guess you're going to have to go on reviews. Sorry. :guilty:

We are having one in March with 18 people. While all of the CM's we have dealt with when reserving the rooms have been EXTREMELY helpful, it has been a TOTAL nightmare. We cannot seem to get confirmation letters, rooms keep getting lost in the system due to various reasons. I have literally been on the phone with them for a total of four hours trying to get everything straight. Everytime I call to verify what is clearly read back to me from the previous CM, something somewhere is missing or messed up. Also, the Magical Gatherings planner that you can download from their sight is BAD. It messed up my computer, and my moms, so DO NOT download it.

My family did a Magical Gatherings vacation back in August. We did have some trouble with reservations and things, but mine only took 1 phone call to correct. The favorite thing we did all week was the Magical Gatherings Fireworks Voyage. Definately worth every penny! The best advice I can give you with a large group is this: don't try to keep everyone together!!! We did on the first day and it was total chaos....after that, we just met at our previously scheduled ps's and it worked out great!

My family did the Safari Celebration last December when we went. We didn't have to go through the Magical Gathering people as my parents are DVC members. But we planned all our dining and the Safari through them. We loved the Safari Celebration. We first got to see the parade in a roped off area. The kids got to sit right up front to see everything. Then we went on the safari. Our guide was awesome. He spent alot more time talking about the animals and they drove slower through the safari. Then we went to the Tusker House for dinner. It was so good. We had a band playing and they brought out two animals. We are going to do it again next Dec when we go. Also we are going to try the Fireworks Voyage and the Tony's Breakfast.

We have the Illuminations international dinner planned on 1/3. I would love to hear any opinions on this. I will post a report when I get back.
