Magical Gatherings is a Disney Myth

"Grand Gatherings" is basically a marketing program where you can purchase "experiences". Its also a way to get your rooms assigned close together if you're in the same resort.

You can buy stuff not available to the general public, making a gathering a good idea if you want to do one of these things. The Epcot dinner and dessert reception is really great. (Anytime you have Epcot and unlimited desserts its a great idea).
