We have done the safari and the fireworks on two different trips. Loved them both.
Fireworks is a great night time activity. Your get to meet your "crew" mates and be greeted by Captain Hook and Smee around some yummy desserts with hot and cold refreshments before setting off on board your "ship" with your very own pirate.
We played trivia type games for small prizes and listen to jokes from our pirate host. We "battled" the other ship. We then got to see Wishes from the water with the music piped into the boat. It was really nice to see it from the water. On our return trip home we were told a story about Peter Pan. Then he was waiting for us when we returned to the Contemporary Marina. There was lots of "face" time with each of the characters especially Hook and Smee at the beginning of the evening.
The Safari was an afternoon activity (after the park closes - though our function fell on a EMH night). We met in Flights of Wonder show pavillion and we were assigned our animal group. We were then led in groups to a "private" safari. You are given a tour with a driver and a host to answer questions and give you a more detailed account of the animals on safari.
We were then taken to Tusker restaurant which is converted from a counter service restaurant to full service for this event. The food was awesome!!! Lots to eat and try. Even with some African flair given to the food we didn't find it too exotic for us (travelling with grandparents and small kids). There were african musicians for dinner music and the kids got up to dance. There were up close looks at a small snake and tarantula. There were special guests Chip and Dale to take pictures with (I have a feeling these characters change). This is a more expensive function than the fireworks because it includes dinner.
We really enjoyed both functions!
