okay, we got our Magical Express package yesterday. as always, there were two yellow luggage tags total for my wife and i. this is the first time we have booked through Disney and not used a travel agent.

on previous trips, our travel agent always got us an additional two yellow tags as we both check in two bags at the airport and needed a total of four tags.

so i called Disney reservations and they guy told me it doesn't matter whether or not you have yellow tags on your luggage. but i told him that i would feel better knowing that all my bags had the yellow tags, so he gave me the number for Magical Express.

so the lady at Magical Express (who was very nice, but made no sense) told me the same thing. she said whether or not you have the yellow tags, you will still get your bags at the same time.

so i asked her "why the yellow tags then?" to which she replied: "well, it is much quicker for us to scan and sort the bags and get them to the right resort"

so, i asked her back "well, then are you saying that bags without yellow tags are less likely to make it to the right resort."

to which she said: "well, we have to look up your airline information and the process does take longer, but it will make no difference to you. you will still get your bags three hours after you check into your room."

so i requested that she go ahead and send me two more yellow tags, as i would rather be safe than sorry. why would i want two of my bags "bar coded" and two of my bags left out there for some person at Magical Express to have to look up the information. it just seems to me that without the tags, you have a greater chance of not getting all your luggage at the same time.

am i right? or does it really matter?

Disney has this stuff down to a science.

I am sure there is a bit of comfort in knowing that all your bags are marked, but I assure you, it would find it's way to your room.

Last December we checked 3 bags at the airport with the Yellow Tags from Disney. At the last minute due to my stupidity I had to check a 4th bag with out the yellow tag. We had to get the 4th bag ourselves from the Airline Baggage Claim and the other 3 never came out they went straight to the resort. I believe WITHOUT the Yellow Tags the bags go to Airline Baggage Claim. Who knows when those 2 suitcases would make it to you.

Enjoy your trip!

When you checkin in with DME at MCO, they ask how many bags, you would tell them 4 total 2 with tags 2 without. They would then ask to see the claim tickets for the bags with out the yellow tags, and relay that info to someone who would go pull your bags from the passenger baggage claim area. No extra work or reason to worry for you, a little extra work for DME, but nothing they don't do everyday.

We did a trip with 85 kids - no yellow tags, we all got our luggage. ME is indeed magical!

I'm going to move this to our transportation board.

I am concerned about this also since our AAA TA told us they only send one tag per person but I call ME. Got a very nice young man on the phone and he said just call 4-5 weeks before the trip and they will send more. I would feel ALOT better knowing my bags ALL had the same tag on it.
I do have another question. Since SWA now does ME both ways will they send a departure tag as well? Or does it not matter since we will be getting our own bags from baggage claim when we land?
thank you!

Some time ago WDW switched to sending only one yellow tag per person. With most airlines charging for checked bags now people are checking fewer bags and WDW has an interest in keeping the number of bags they have to transport down, so this is a way to discourage people from checking more bags.

As noted, DME will send (or at least promise to send) additional tags upon request. Please note, however, that they are notoriously inconsistent in fulfilling those requests. We have asked and received additional tags and asked and never seen anything.

All that said, it is correct that the tags aren't necessary for DME to collect your luggage. We've had to do that and it worked fine. I'm sure it makes it easier and faster for them if all bags are tagged; but they can and will collect untagged bags and transport them to your resort. You will need to make a stop at the actual DME Welcome Center desk and give (or show, I can't remember) them your airline baggage claim checks and a description of the bag (we took and printed out a photo of the bag in question when we did this). Then you can get on the bus and your bags should arrive without further ado.

First off you need NO tags if you are getting your own bags from baggage claim when you land so there would be no reason to call for more.

There is never a departure tag sent or one that a guest would use - that is all done when you check your bags with RAC as you leave.

Actually they don't put a departure tag on it so to speak - it's the regular baggage tags that the airport does. They tag it for the airport and then it sits in a holding area where it is placed on trucks going right to the airport.

If you are worried about not getting your luggage and you have a color printer, just make a copy of one of your DME tags and put that on your luggage.
That is what we did and it worked fine.

For our trip in May I called ME and requested the additional luggage tags. I waited until after I received my ME packet in the mail and then I called to request the additional tags. They arrived a few days later and I forwarded my friend's two tags to her in plenty of time for our trip.

And if you don't have a color printer, pick up a package of yellow paper.

This is a GREAT hint, helenk!

And if having yellow paper or yellow ink help you sleep at night, that's the way to go, but understand that you could be confusing the system, as each barcode is unique, and when they scan the same tag twice it may cause confusion.

I say just trust the system. It's Disney, as mentioned before they won't lose your bags.

I called ME the day my tags came in the mail and they sent out more tags no questions asked.:cloud9:

I had not thought of the bar coding issue, but we've done it twice now and have gotten all our luggage with no problem

Why would the barcode be unique for each bag? :confused3 I'm guessing the code has: Resort Name & Reservation Name. POSSIBLY: arrival date, flight, & time (but not sure how those would help).

You will only get one tag per passenger. It has been this way for a bit now. It has nothing to do with where you booked your trip. If you feel you need more, just call DME and they will sent out more.

If you don't call and get more tags, you can just tell them you have 4 checked bags (for instance)..two of which are tagged, two are not. Then give them the baggage claim receipts for the untagged bags. You will be fine. The bags will all get to your resort, just fine.

Of course, there are those who head to baggage claim, get their own bags, and then attach the yellow luggage tags to their bags as they wait in the DME bus line!! I must have seen 5 or 6 groups doing this. Doesn't anyone read the material included???

Okay you've been on these boards long enough to know that most people do not read the material. :lmao:

We are from Scotland and have never recived bag tags from DVC and have not had a problem.
