Magical Express Question

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I did not see it. Can you use the magical express strictly for the luggage service? We have private transportation arranged to the resort, but we are not sure if we will have enough room for 5 people, their luggage and groceries. Thank you for your advice in advance.

The official answer is no.

If you do not ride the bus, then you are technically not a Magical Express guest.

If you fail to claim your baggage at the airport, you have technically abandoned it. True, DME will summarily pick up yellow tagged baggage their staff see but once in a blue moon the baggage might not get to Orlando. It is then up to you to resolve the issue with your airline.

There is a patch or kludge or idiosyncrasy that works to the benefit of DME guests; these persons (when arriving before 10 PM) may file baggage claims at the resort since the act of following the DME instructions bypasses baggage claim.

You could have one person from your party ride DME to your resort and you can meet them there.

You know everyone askes this question because so many answers do not have the right information. The answer is in a sticky posted above. Some of the veteran posters think they are Disney and they have the right answers. However they are wrong and just don't seem to want to admit it or maybe they just don't like anyone doing what they think may be wrong or not up to their standards.

In return you get speculative answers, suppositions and just downright gossip. I feel you should just let Disney run their benefit anyway they want. They are certainly doing it right now and there is no problems in the way it is being run. I belive Disney's answer is in the sticky. They have taken no actions to change the way some people use the DME passenger and luggage service.

Before I go and close this thread, since the info is in that stickied thread...thanks to those of you who posted links to it....just let me say one thing.
Can you use DME for luggage only? Yes..it has been proven time and time again that it is not a problem. The issue is that if you, any one of you, were to call Disney right now, and ask them if you can use DME for your luggage while you get yourself there in some other way, Disney will tell you no, you are to ride the bus..that luggage transfer is an additional perk of using this service. That it is,first and foremost, a service to get guests to their WDW owned resorts without having to pay for a shuttle service...the luggage transfer is a perk for using this service. THAT is what Disney will tell you. But, they do something completely different than what they say. They will grab all bags that are tagged with those yellow DME tags,and get them to your resort, even if you have rented a car, or hired a towncar service or decided to ride your yak to your resort!! That's the bottom line. Once again, Disney has put out a ruling but doesn't enforce it. Just like refillable mugs.
