Magical Express Question

We received our tags yesterday, but last night after talking my DH and I have decided renting a car would be better for us. But we were wondering, could the Magical Express still take our luggage for us? I heard the tags help keep the airlines from losing them so much and Disney can sometimes make sure you luggage gets to you without you ever being the wiser if there was a problem..

I know it is kind of a weird idea, but we have an early flight and check in probably isn't until afternoon I'm guessing. I thought we could just go from airport to MK to surprise my DD (she doesn't know we are going :cutie: ). I figured we could just check in after the crowds in the evening.

What do you guys think? ( I'm a newbie at this if you couldn't tell!)

I believe that at least one person would need to travel with the luggage. I think people do this all the time. For simplicity one parent and the kids take ME and the luggage and the other goes to the rental counter and drives.

I won't waste money on a car.

but the way ME works it has to be both or nothing.

yes they will pick up your luggage if it has the tags. but I think they check the sign in before they delivery it to your hotel.

you can check into the hotel as soon as you arrive at the hotel.

now that doesn't mean you get a room - just that you can check in - the possibility of getting a room is pretty good early.

I don't think they will just take your luggage for you. I think one person would have to take ME, and you might run into an issue withthem taking all your luggage...each person gets two tags. If you limit your luggage to two bags, then it should be okay...but I know airlines won't take a bag unless the person whose name is on the bag is also on the plane. I'm just guessing, but maybe ME has the same policy.
I also think it's a better idea generally to check in to your room earlier in the day rather than later. If there is an issue with the room you are given, you're not going to want to deal with it at midnight. For us, we've always done better after a flight to go to the room for an hour, eat a meal, then do something. If you've got an early flight, chances are pretty good you're going to be tired when you get there (will you sleep the night before?) the last time we had an early flight to Orlando, we all needed a nap before we could head out. Your eating schedule also gets messed up when you travel. When I arrive, I'm usually hungry, airport/airplane food offerings often just don't cut it.
Personally, I think your daughter will be plenty excited to see the resort too. The kids in our family always have been...From their perspective, seeing the pool is often just as big a deal as many of the rides.Disney resorts have great theming; they aren't just your average, boring motel.
Last, you could also run into a snag if you have a package - you won't have your park tickets until after you check-in. But if you've got your tickets already, this won't matter.

There is another thread that's talking about this. The official written rules are someone has to travel with the bags. But there are lots of stories of people not using the DME for people and using it for the luggage.

Unpredictable things might happen.

If per chance the yellow tag comes off, the bag would end up in the airline's unclaimed area and nothing more is heard of it until you go back to the airport to claim it or file a claim.

Whereas a Magical Express guest reports that baggage has not arrived at the resort and ME CM's all up the line including at the airport will go looking for it and even file a missing baggage claim with the airline.
