Magical Express Luggage Transfer Not Automatic?

Traveled to WDW last February on Westjet direct from Kitchener/Waterloo. Upon arrival the pilot announced that those going to a WDW resort would have to claim their luggage before handing it back over to be sent to our Disney hotel or just keep it with you on the ME bus. Plane arrived around 7:00pm so it wasn't late at night or anything. We just kept our luggage and took it with us on the bus.

Just wondering if this has happened to others and if anyone knows the reason. Is it because travelers from Toronto have already cleared US customs and we hadn't?

Will probably fly from Hamilton when we go this year and I was wondering if I should expect the same thing. Not a big deal but would be nice to know ahead of time.

This is why I like flying out of YYC Calgary - the US customs is within the airport, so you clear security and US customs in nearly the same line, then you are free and clear to get luggage and depart the airport when you leave, not have ONE more checkpoint.

If you don't clear US customs at the airport then you'll need to pick up your bags, but you can place them back on the transfer carousel. We just went through both on our last 2 trips. Cleared US customs in Halifax so there was no need to retrieve our bags, and just last week we flew out of Moncton and had to clear in Orlando, we just ended up taking our bags with us on DME.

Just to answer your Hamilton question, it does not have US Customs preclearance. So, yep, just like you experienced from KW.
