We always pickup our own bags at the airport. These days I feel like its a security concern.

Truly not sure why. Are you concerned that your luggage will be taken (accidentally/intentionally) before CMs can get it? DME-tagged luggage gets pulled before any bags are placed on the carousel/belt.

I would, as always, have everything I need for the first 24 hours in my carry on, and request to have my luggage delivered in the morning.

Don’t put the yellow tags on your bags. Pick up your bags and bring them to the ME bus. Simple, predictable and no hassle.

We usually land in the evening and grab our own bags.

My personal rule of thumb is if we land before 2pm I use the tags, any time after that we grab our own bags.

Regardless of either scenario, we pack all essentials for a 24 hour period in our carry ons.

Unless you have carry on bags only I can't see what difference ME vs. airport baggage handling makes. You've still trusted someone else. Airline is way more likely to loose your bag than ME (based on track records)

Any landing after 5pm I pick it up myself as I am just heading to my room for the night. If it’s earlier I will use DME luggage service as I most likely am going to park before my room. I will say the only time my luggage has been lost was by airline and not Disney. It was a late flight, 9:30pm arrival, where it never even made it on plane-last flight of day. I did have all I needed in my carry on and headed out to AK the next morning for EMH and got a call from the airline at 9am that my bag was at MCO and they would FED EX it to resort. It was in my room when I got back at around noon. Most lost luggage catches up to you in 24hrs. Moral of story is pack necessary items in carry on.
