I can only imagine (from a logistics standpoint) that once bags are taken from the carousel and loaded onto buses destined for each resort, the tags on each bag play an important role in getting A particular bag to A particular hotel.

Just a copuple of clarifications...

Bags with Magical Express tags won't go the baggage claim carousel. They'll be intercepted "behind the scenes."

And the bags won't be loaded onto buses. They'll be loaded onto trucks, after their owners have checked in for the motor coach.

I wasn't picking on the use of the word bus.

I just tryiing to clear up a common misconception that Magical Express luggage will go to a baggage claim carousel (it won't) and that it will travel to WDW on a Magical Express coach/bus (it won't).

...oh--This was a question I posted on the transportation board...very important!
If the bags are supposed to end up in your room and are tied to your reservation, does that mean that they are tied to a particular room assigned to you? I just thought of this because often when I am assigned a room at check-in, I may make a request to see if a different location is available...

I can't imagine any problem with a split stay. For their purposes, each one-way is a discrete event; in other words the inbound and homebound flights are not linked from DME's perspective. They have two ressies for you: one for the inbound flight, say home airport to MCO to Poly; another for the outbound flight, say AKL to MCO to home airport.

You simply made these arrangements at the same time, but for DME's purposes, they are seperate events. A split stay would have at least two resort ressie #s, and each leg of the trip would be connected to the relevant ressie #.

I think this is a superior idea. We're not travelling until late June, so I hope many of the bugs will beworked out. One thing we are doing though, is each family member will have a backpack as a carry on. OUr basic toiletries and 1 change of very casual clothes will be in that bag.....just in case it takes a while for our bags to find our room. If we get there and want to go swimming, those suits will be in the backpack too.

Looking forward to the magical treatment.

Disney will know your flight number, so they'll track late arrivals. This will be especially important if your flight will be delayed until after 11:00 p.m. Earlier in the day, it should simply be a matter of getting on the next available coach that goes to your resort.

You should contact Disney if your flight number changes after you make your DME reservation.

Once bags arrive at the hotels, I would certainly think that bell services would assume the job of identifying the rooms where bags will be delivered.​

We are starting at BCV, then dh is leaving there and going home after 4 days. Then dd and I move over to POR for the last two nights. I had no problem at all getting all this done for DME. Granted, it did take MS a few minutes to grasp what we were doing but we're set to go now. So, those split stays shouldn't be an issue.

IMO, there is no way Disney can handle this task, smoothly.

Lucky for me they'll have 5 months under their belt before I have to decide to use this feature.

As for the posts questioning Disney's ability to pull this off.....it was interesting for me to see that a key participant in all of this is ARINC. They have a significant presence in the airline industry and are known for handling very complex problems. I suspect there is a rather extensive databse and process function under the surface here. While the may be a few issues on the shake out cruises, I'm willing to wager a tall beer that things will be running smoothly by June 1. Only question then is, how do I get my beer ???

Disney's been piloting this with DCL pax for years. The vendor Disney is using has been doing offsite checkin at conventions.

Tha't pretty darn funny Especially the "Please don't drink & post" line. I've actulally been guilty of that a few times in the last week or two.

A beer, consumed alone, does not taste as good. That is unless it is just after mowing the lawn on a hot summer day. If anyone is staying at WL 19 June -25 June, I'll gladly raise a glass with them at the Territory Lounge one evening.

You know, I ALWAYS do this when we travel by plane. Each of us carries a change of clothing, pajamas and swimsuit (if it's pool weather) in our carryon, along with a toothbrush (and I carry my contact lenses stuff)

One ziplock holds the change of clothing, including underwear and socks, the other holds the pajamas and swimsuit.

I would not fly without doing this
