MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

Lissa,
We are going to WDW after the cruise. I was also thinking we are getting close to the 180 day mark. I can't believe it is that close.
We are not going to do the parks because we are going in August. We figure we will just spend time at the hotel and relax after the go go go of the cruise. My dd's birthday is the 29th so we are going to have a birthday party for her and I am going to take her and my other dd to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at the marketplace.
We are also having a New Years Eve party at OKW. My dh and I used to work at Disney and we still know a few people there so we are going to have them over.
I guess we are just treating it as a rest time and we will try a few restaurants around property at the other hotels.
Are you guys going into the parks?

Angie

We have said we are not going to do the parks since we are going to be there in August but I know us we will end up in the parks some of the time. We've done fourth of July and Christmas in the Magic kingdom. Fourth of July the park was closed to everyone it was one of the hottest days in July and we were miserable. Christmas park closed on and off the crowds were bad but it was cool so we were able to bare the crowds. I would love to see the NYE fireworks at MK because they ones of the fourth are amazing we just haven't decided yet.

I'm working on a t-shirt design and should have one posted by tomorrow if I can figure out how to post it. I have no idea what cafepress is never used it never heard of it. Could someone explain please.

Good afternoon everyone!

Cindy, you some great points and suggestions! In fact, reading all the information that you and Amy have posted about events you all have done in your past cruises with DIS groups made me realize how in over my head I really am by offering to coordinate the Secret Santa exchange. With that said, is anyone willing to take it over? I just don't have enough experience with these kinds of things (we have only been on one other cruise, remember and we didn't DO ANYTHING in regards to the DIS group-very boring crowd) and I just work way too much to be able to devote the time these kinds of events take in planning. I am REALLY good at buying anything that needs to be bought for said events (I don't even give my kids birthday parties, so what made me think I could pull together any kind of Christmas event?!:lmao: ). Amy and Cindy, you both sound soooo good at this with such good ideas. Maybe one of you could pull these things together and coordinate the things we would like to do as a group.:confused3 We will DEFINATELY participate in all of it, but it is just WAY TOO OVERWHELMING for me to try to plan this. I can compile the list of the people that PM me and want to take part in the Secret Santa(there weren't many). I have some really good ideas on gifts to buy for the exchange and I already know what ornament I want to buy, but as for planning it: WAY OVER MY HEAD and way beyond my area of expertise . If you want to talk about birthing babies, I am you gal. Anything crafty, not me. I just want this cruise to be perfect for Christmas, and I botch everything I have ever tried to plan (event wise). Sorry.

The T-shirt sounds great!!! We have already purchased Disney logo shirts from Disneyshopping.com for embarkation day, but would love a Christmas one as well for the DIS group.

Last cruise, for pirate night, we just had pirate T-shirts made with our names on them. We really aren't the dress up in costume kind of people (comfort is EVERYTHING to us:rotfl2: ). I might be able to get the kids to dress up in costumes this time, we will see.

Shannon:) :) :)

Here is one t-shirt design let me know what you think.

Lissa,

Cafe Press is a site where you can upload your designs and create a store front. There are all kinds of products available to put the designs on; from T-shirts, to mugs, to tote bags, to underwear, etc. You can then order your own items, and if you share the address of your storefront, other people can also order. Cafe press does all the collecting of money, the printing, and the shipping.

Opening a basic shop at Cafe Press is free. I believe there are some limits to what you can offer with the free storefront, but I'm sure they would more than meet our needs.

They do have very strict copyright rules though, so I'm afraid Santa Mickey would be a no go.

You're right, santa Mickey is a no-go with cafepress. But, the ships are ok, and that's why with our other one for the DVC cruises, we used the "WONDER" or "MAGIC" as a little play on words. We even highlighted the ships name in a different color and caps to have it stand out. Maybe we can just add a Christmas tree, just like you added the holly.

I'm OK with photoshop, so I'm going to try my hand at it too. I say that we get as many people that might be interested in "designing" a tshirt as possible, then we can have a little vote. Plus, if you want, we can add a design to the front left area too.

opps wasn't thinking about copyright laws. The only time I've done t-shirts is just for my family and we print them at home using the iron on stuff. I'll take Mickey off and add something else like a christmas tree.

Photoshop is not hard it just takes time to get used to you can also do the same thing with a printshop or the paint program. Can't wait to see what others come up with.

I love the shirt!!! Actually, I think I would love any design, it's just a confirmation that we really are going on a Christmas Cruise!!!!!!!:santa: :cool1:

Has anyone given any thought about the Secret Santa gift exchange? In my earlier post, I humbly asked for someone to take over the planning of this and then thought maybe we could just go at it as a group.:confused3. Any ideas? Amy, you have so many wonderful ideas and experiences from past cruises, maybe you would better know how to make this a great exchange!

I am thinking that we are going to use Christmas stockings as fish extenders, because I know I will never have time to make a fish extender and I AM NOT crafty in any way, so in the end I always opt to buy whatever it is I thought I could/would make. They have some really cute Christmas stocking on line, Disney style!

I'd be glad to coordinate a poll so we can get an idea of how many DISers are interested in each of the different types of activities. Amy has a list of the DISers who have posted on the thread, so I can send a list of activities by PM (so as not to flood the thread) to get a feel for what everyone wants to do / interested in - exchanges, meets, t-shirts, etc. I'll work on putting that together today, so check your PMs later on!

A quick note - Cafe press tees run very small. I ordered a large for my 06 cruise and my size 3 daughter barely fit into it. This time I am going to have a local printer make them for us. That way they cost about $7 each and the kids love to design.

Yes we are also going to WDW afterwards. I have all my food reservations but the only times we could get were between 4 and 4:30. Early eating. oh well! They said a group of 16 had to be within an hour of opening. Still waiting to hear about the family gathering event. We have done it before at Epcot but the fireworks are so cool when you have a special spot, desserts, and drinks . . . oh and you r family. . .

 warning: we will be out eating with a large group!!! A group of crazy sisters!

We made our reservations for dining today for after the cruise. I was excited becasue even though i called late this afternoon we were still able to get all the times we wanted even for NYE. Call me crazy but we will be in the MK that night. I want to see the fireworks. Spent the day working on door signs my brother thinks I've gone nuts. He doesn't understand.

We got the letter yesterday from DCL stating that our itinerary has officially been changed from Costa Maya on Wednesday to Grand Cayman. Anyone else get the letter?

We are glad for the chance to return to Grand Cayman as we had been there on our first DCL in 2005, but as novices, we got off the ship, tendered over, did our DCL excursion, and then promptly got back on the ship. We wished, in hindsight, that we'd at least returned back to the island to do some shopping later in the day, so now we'll get that chance.

We did the island historical tour that took us around and showed us some of the area, and then we went to Hell and to the Turtle Farm and then to Stingray City. We didn't snorkel or do the "in the water" stingray adventure.

Here's one of my favorite pictures:

And now that I look at the picture (above), I really see how much our children, especially Z who is the one you can see all of, have grown and changed - this was in Dec. 2005. He doesn't even look like the same kid now. Here he is on the Wonder in April 2008.

Hey everyone,

I hope you all have a fantastic time on the cruise. We are officially cancelling this afternoon. If anyone knows of anyone interested in the secret porthole room adjacent to Amy & Chris, it will be available shortly.

Have a fantastic time. I can't wait to read all about it.
