MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

I was just reading on the main cruise thread about the gangway collapse due to lines snapping because of the winds on Sunday. It looks like we will have some changes for boarding when we sail as word on the board is that it will be about 8 weeks before they get things ready to use the main gangway again.

I wonder how it will be. When we sailed the Med, we boarded from Deck 1 which was so odd even though we'd used that deck for reboarding after excursions, etc., on previous cruises. There was just something about not entering through the atrium.

Wow - I just read about the Wonder - that would have been scary! Hopefully we will have more information about boarding before our trip, but it sounds like we will be getting on Deck 1 - hey, at least it is close to my room in the basement...ha!

Tomorrow is my day to hold the mail and get my Disney Reward points - I get more posted to the account today...yeah!

We do not have our documents yet, but not worried about it. At least I have filled out all my online stuff!

I have my Christmas stuff taken care of - now all I have to do is hope it all gets shipped in time before I leave! I plan on packing and getting the shipping stuff ready by next week!

Our church has it's Christmas program this weekend, so that will also take up some free time - but we are having brunch with Santa on Sunday with my Dad so the kids have that to look forward to!

16 days!

When we went out of Miami after one of the big huricanes we boarded thru a crappy industrial dock at Port Everglades..

You are boarding one of the greatest cruise ships ever and its Christmas.. Toss me a rope from our deck and I will climb up that carrying all of my DW's luggage to get on... :thumbsup2

Oh and Happy Birthday to Dr. hfc1969 (my better half & DW) :worship:

Glad almost everyone is getting their documents - now it seems real!

Thanks for the reminder about Shirley. I did decide to do a basket for my kids to share. I also had a price quote of $65 for a 2 ft live tree, decorated with lights. DH & I are thinking about it..... We could certainly buy a small artificial tree for less & goodness knows we have enough decorations but the hassle of the extra baggage plus the $$fees or mailing expense plus purchasing the tree may be about equal.

We've decided not to do matching shirts as no one can agree to anything even in the same color family so we've decided to wear some of our past Christmas hats from WDW (well, Mouse ears really). I also gave up making our FE - and did buy a Pooh stocking from Target for one room plus an Ikea Fabler hanging organizer I bought on ebay (it is really cute). Its been a great relief to let that go. Thank you.

As for the FE exchange - are people labeling who the gift is from or who it is to? Or just sneaking it into the FE? I'm sure I'll have more questions later as we get closer - but :yay: just a couple weeks!

Hi everyone!!

When we got our gift baskets last time, they were filled with more toys than candy/snacks because that's how I asked for Shirley to fill them! This time I asked her to make them Christmas themed and again with very little snacks. Theses baskets were actually less money than the baskets last cruise. $40/basket.

We got the new Disney logo t-shirts for this cruise to wear of embarkation day along with the personalized Mickey ear Santa hats.:santa: Then we will the Cafe Press t-shirts on Monday for the group picture, right?

It is in the 60's in Orlando right now, which to us southern Texas people is COLD!:scared: We have packed cold weather clothes and I have prepared the kids that they may not be doing a lot of swimming. It is still in the 80's here and we have coats on!:lmao:

I am STILL trying to get DH to print out our door signs and family "business cards".:headache: He is SUCH a procrastinator, he will probably be printing them out as we are packing the van to leave for Houston

This is my fourth and final night!!! I have 4 days off, then my final four nights before vacation time!!:cool1: I don't want to see EVEN ONE pregnant woman while on vacation!!!!!

Have a great day everyone!

Dec. 5th - Get suitcases out of storage.

And tell your family they just have to walk around them for the next two weeks! Time to get serious about what bags you plan to take, checking airline restrictions for those of you flying. I'm glad we're close enough to drive so that our packing can be a bit different (like I don't have to pack some of each person's clothes in the each suitcase - because the chances of our luggage getting "lost" after we get to the port are quite reduced).

Have a great day everyone.

Good Afternoon! I can't believe that we will be in PC in two weeks. :cool1:

I"m trying to get my FE gifts made and I'm having trouble keeping them together with Crazy Glue. Need to go to the glue gun next. Is anyone shipping their FE gifts to the port?

Do we have a list of DIS events happening on the cruise? As I read through the posts it seems like there is a bunch of things going on but I can't seem to figure out when and/or where.

Thanks!

Happy packing :woohoo:

I am shipping my room decorations, FE gifts, Secret Santa, & Pirate costumes, etc. to the port. I hope they make it. :scared: We are traveling from Indiana, staying a week at WDW post cruise, and we are a family of seven it will make our lives so much easier not to have to worry about hauling all of that down with us.

Does anyone know if you can ship from the ship home like you can from WDW? Depending on how much stuff we end up coming home with that may be a good option for us.

I cannot wait 2 weeks from today we will be flying down to Orlando spending the night at the Hyatt and then heading to the port!

Happy packing!

I so need a vacation very badly
Oh yeah, I'll be on vacation in 2 weeks! :yay: :cool1:

I just shipped our FE and Christmas decorations to the ship. They went out yesterday. I just have to hope they get there.

I will be shipping stuff to the ship - gifts, F/E, Decorations etc. Still have to pack it all up! We are going to Contemporary after the cruise and I was wondering how it works to ship stuff home from the resort. Has anyone done this and how does it work?

Thanks!

There is some info in Shirley's thread about shipping both to and from the port area - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1520273.

We've never shipped to or from WDW but I know folks do all the time. You might want to ask on the main thread.

It's chilly and rainy here and we're heading to the beach in a bit for the weekend. Hopefully it will clear up and not be too yucky. I'm planning to make my complete "to do" list while we're there this weekend since I know I won't be able to actually DO anything on the list til we get home.

Shipping from WDW is easy. If it is items you did not buy there you take it to the front desk tell them you want to ship some things home. If you need a box they will get one for you and they will get you a shipping form. After you get everything packed up and the form filled out take it back to the desk. They will print a shipping level seal it to the box you pay them and it goes out via UPS. If you are shipping nothing but WDW items they will do the packign for you. If you have a mix of stuff it is cheaper to pack it yourself and send it as one large item. We had 14 days worth of purchases to ship home. A huge box and it only cost us 10 dollars.

Didn't someone post here about buying individual packets of laundry soap at Wal-Mart or somewhere similar? Can you tell me more about them and where in the store you find them? I've looked at our WM and grocery stores and don't see anything like that. Is it just with regular laundry soap?

I also realized I've never given our family info for the main page. Cruising will be me (Jennifer), DH Mark, DS10 Kevyn and DS3 (4 in Feb) Sam. We aren't doing any of the FE, ornament exchange, etc., because of packing limitations and me being overwhelmed in general, but look forward to meeting everyone at the embarkation meet. Can't believe we're leaving for WDW in 6 days. :scared1: yet :woohoo: It's 20 degrees here this morning, so I am ready for some fun in the sun!

I see where the embarkation will take place on Deck 1. I guess where we come in to the ship from CC. I'm so bummed out because I was hoping to have a special announcement made when my parents enter for the 50th anniversary. I doubt they will announce anyone since there is not any room in the boarding area for staff clapping. :sad2:

Hi Gang,
Just saw on another thread that the Magic came back today from another Western and couldn't tender into GC because of high waves. They waited around long enough to enchange entertainers and were off to an additional day at sea. Hope that doesn't happen to us but I guess you can never count on the weather.

Laurie we embarked on deck one in Barcelona. They took us up the elevator to deck nine and announced us there. I remember because my mom turned and looked at me and asked if they just said our names.

As long as we don't skip Cozumel and Castaway Cay I'm ok with having extra sea days. I loved just being on the ship the last time and being able to relax by the pool.

Ok I'm completely avoiding finshing my project that is due Monday by being on the DIS but oh well i'm tired of working.

Did we ever decide when we are leaving fro the Dolphin excursion and weher we are going to meet?

On Monday are we doing a group picture? If we are come even if you didn't buy a shirt the poitn of the picture is not wearing the t-shirt but having a memory of the trip.

Ok back to work I've got about 15 more pages to write on a 30 page proposal. How come I see tomorrow being a long day.
