MAGICal Christmas 2008 - December 20, 2008

Hate to butt into your thread ladies but I have a question, have any of you ever cruised over Christmas? We have a deadline to choose when we want to go, and they surprisingly gave us this cruise as an option, I was just wondering if they do anything special for Christmas aboard the ship etc?? thanks so much!!

Well, for one thing, the ship is GORGEOUS when it's decked out for Christmas. For another, the special XMas menu is yummy, IMHO. And then there is the fact that you'll be cruising with this wonderful group of people on this thread -- what's not to like??? :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I don't remember special events, but then again, on the 2 XMas cruises I took we were at port on XMas day. This year we'll be at sea on 12/25, so I'm guessing they'll have something(s) special planned! And hopefully a special Palo Brunch menu...A girl can dream, right?

The atmosphere is very special on a XMas cruise, and we're planning a gift exchange among the DISers, and maybe some other "stuff." If I have a choice, I'd always take a XMas cruise!

I had found a website a while back with someone's Christmas Cruise trip report and it had videos. There was a video of Mrs. Claus reading Twas the Night Before Christmas and video of CMs carolling. I know I sent it to Amy and Cindy, so maybe one of them kept the link.

Is everyone watching the eclipse? I'm such a geek when it comes to stuff like that. I've been out every 10 mins taking pictures and everything. My neighbors must think I'm nuts. :rolleyes1

Katiesmommy,

Congratulations on your win, what an awesome prize!

Looks like Dee and Diana have already jumped in and given you some good info.
(I started typing my response and then got sidetracked, so some of this might be a repeat of what they've already posted... but I'm not deleting it now)
;)

Disclaimer: I haven't cruised over Christmas before, so this is certainly not 1st hand experience; but from what I can tell:

I think most of the Christmas activities DCL offers are available on all the holiday season sailings. ie: tree lighting, gingerbread houses, crew caroling, etc.

I've seen posts about Mrs. Claus reading to the kids and Santa Goofy making an appearance. Whether that's exclusive to being onboard on Christmas day, I'm really not sure?

I know DCL does a special Christmas dinner.

But hey, whether there are extras or not... what could be better than cruisin' Disney on Christmas Day?! :santa:

Hopefully you'll be back to officially join our thread soon. :thumbsup2

Ahem---you mean Diana's special birthday dinner, right? ;) :lmao:

Why of course that's what I meant! ;)

We've been trying to catch a glimpse of the lunar eclipse as well... but it's so darn cloudy here that we're pretty much stuck experiencing a virtual eclipse online.
woo hoo

There was this one big cloud over the moon here right until 8:30 and then like magic it cleared and it's been a great show---now if only I can stay awake until 10:30!!

Sheila: Mitchell would LOVE to play catch with your husband and son! He spent the majority of his time on the sports deck on the last cruise. He just got home from a two hour baseball practice and his knees are in need of a rest!:lmao:

I went to Mexico today with my best friend and WOW! what a mess they have over there. There were armed (and I mean with AK-47's:scared: ) soldiers EVERYWHERE!! In the streets, the shops and on every balcony. We had the hardest time coming back across the border than any other time we have gone over there. They grilled us, asked for a driver's license, birth certificate, AND a passport, and searched our vehicle. I don't think we will be going back anytime soon. Not until things settle down over there and the guards disappear! I guess things are worse over there than we had originally thought.:guilty:

This is my last night off before I start a long stretch of work nights.:sad2:
I am going to get in my bed and watch a marathon of CSI!

Side note: on my previous post I started it on Wednesday and finished it on Thursday. Sorry, I got sidetracked by life and had to come back to it this morning!:confused3

Hi All,

I've been AWOL for a little while. We're bracing for another winter storm - man I really need to more some place warm!! But have to wait until the kids are finished with high school.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I totally agree with you. We used to live in Florida and everytime all this cold weather shows up I just keep reminding myself that once the kids are done with high school I am back in the warm weather.

We too are gearing up tonight for this snow storm. I am sure the kids will have a snow day and if they do it means adding a day on at the end of the year.:sad1:

Everyone is finally healthy again here, for now. Both girls had strep throat over the last few days  but the medicine has finally kicked in.

On a happier note. I called and got all my advanced reservations for all the Disney dining we wanted for our trip in August. We have gone to the princess breakfast in Epcot 3 years in a row and I finally got into the Cinderella breakfast in the castle this year.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Angie

Angie,

I see your from PA too! We are about 1/2 hour north of Pittsburgh. We've had our share of weather over the past couple of weeks. I'm glad your house is getting healthy!!

Cinderella Castle - how cool!!!

Just looked outside - DEFINITE snow day - or at least a 2 hour delay!!!

Dee - thanks for the link to the Tweens meet-thread -- I just posted over there on behalf of my boys -- since we still haven't told them we're going :) But I wanted to let the other kids get to know them until we decide what we're going to do.

I've been in town for 7 1/2 straight weeks and am about to go stir crazy - and as you can see from our sig, we have another 5 1/2 weeks to go until we leave for Spring Break. ay yi yi.

I hope everyone is having a great week. Mine started off with a bang with my mom almost missing her flight Sunday. They had moved it up an hour and none of us thought to check it. So I've been left at home with a brother who has a cast to his knee and I've got an upper respitaory infection. My fourth grade girls are at war with each other. I may kill them before they have a chance to kill each other though. To add to all this stress I started graduate school yesterday. I am so ready for spring break but it is not until the middle of April. Right now I'm praying the weather forecaster is correct and we get a snow day tomorrow.

Good morning everyone! I hope it's been a good week so far for all!

It's cold here this morning(45 degrees:scared: ). It has been 96 degrees and sunny for the last two days, then a cold front came in last night. No wonder the kids keep getting sick, right?:confused3

Last night Mitchell had a basketball game and one of the boys broke his arm.:guilty: He tripped on another player and when he tried to break his fall, he broke his arm. Poor kid screamed, his mom was screaming (it looked pretty gross:sad1: ) and the rest of us moms had tears in our eyes. Me, another nurse, and a doctor were all with him trying to stabilize his arm while we waited for the paramedics to come. I felt useless, though, because being a labor and delivery nurse, all I knew to do was to not move his arm. Even the other nurse said he has been in administration for so long now that he has forgotten REAL nursing, as he put it. And the doctor was an oncologist, so it was a pretty sad group of healthcare professionals trying to help this 11 y.o. boy through his ordeal:rolleyes: .

How is school going for everyone? We have spring break on 3/17/08, so we will probably go to South Padre Island for a few days and enjoy the beach (it's only an hour drive from us). The only downfall is all the high school and college kids that are also there at that time.:scared1: We get out of school for the summer on 5/31/08. In Michigan it was always well into June before summer break because of all the snow days we had during the year.

I hope everyone is doing well and have a good week!!!

Hi Everyone!
The weather here is awful and cold. My girls had a 2 hour delay yesterday and of course it was a day when I have class in the morning so I had to scramble to find someone to stay with my kids till the bus came. I can't wait for some spring weather. My girls don't have summer break until June 12th and now they just added an extra day because of snow days.

I get a college spring break starting on 03/03 but we are not going anywhere. My girls do not get a spring break from school. They only get a few days around Easter. I am going to use the week off to catch up on all the papers I have to write for my classes.

I hope everyone is having a great week.

Angie

Ok I need some help. My mom will turn 60 on 12/17 right before we leave for the cruise. This year we chose a day and celebrated her birthday at Disney because the school had their Christmas play on the 17th and I was tied up with that. No big deal celebrating at WDW I had the company gifts of a liftime plan a event at Epcot and we had a special cake that night at Cali grill. Since this is a big birthday we would like to do something special for her again. I know I can order the b-day package through DCL when it gets closer. Can you order a special cake for dinner that night or do they not do that? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Lissa

Howdy Everyone;

My name is Matt I'm lissa's younger better looking brother. Who has unfortunately been left in her tender care with a broken foot and no escape. Just thought I'd finally drop in and introduce myself seeing as I'm stuck at home and with my foot up I'll prob. be in here more. Well gotta go.

Matt

Lissa,
I'm sure if you let your servers know when you would like to celebrate your mom's birthday they would be glad to accomodate you. The complimentary cakes they serve at dinner are not exactly elegant culinary creations, but they are still very nice, and it's great that they offer them at no additional charge.
I can't even imagine how many they provide over the course of a week.
Someone is always celebrating something!

Matt,
Welcome to the Dis and to our thread!
Hope the foot is feeling better.
