Whe are going down to Disney next month. We are interested in the DVC. What is the maximum amount that would be applied towards the membership of the DVC?

MB will provide a credit towards purchase up to a maximum of $2000. At VWL it is $5 per point on your 1st year's points and is $10@ at HH and VB. :)

Are these dollar amounts off all your first years points or only half as it has been in the past?

I am not sure, but I would bet that since $5 per point is such a rip-off, it is probably on 100% of the first year's points. The points are worth considerably more than $5 each.

I would say that unless somone simply has absolutely no way at all to come up with a downpayments, needs to buy innidiately and is not planning to vacation for a very long time, MB may be worth considering.

Buying and then renting out your first year's points for $10 or more would be a MUCH better deal.

The buy back is available on up to all of your first year points. Keep in mind that you will still be paying maintenance fees on those points.

As Rich says, unless you really need the reduction on the purchase, the points are worth more if used in some other fashion.

I think it is being offered as a token gesture ($5) at VWL (they obviously don't intend it as a serious discount), but it is more viable at HH and VB ($10).

Man, I really have to look at what I type before I hit post. I guess three thumbs on each hand does have its drawbacks.

Paying Dues on those points is quite as bad as it aounds. At first blush, you think that $5 per point - $3.64 dues leaves $1.36. I just can't imagine giving up a years worth of points for $1.36 each.

But usually, DVC is backdating the contract several moneth and you are only paying a prorated amount of the first year's dues. You are still only getting between $1.36 and something near $4 after you count the dues. Or $200 for your first year's points on a 150 point contract.

Although the poster stated MB's, he also stated they're going to WDW next month. Isn't there the program that applies some monies you pay toward another WDW resort stay to DVC when you first purchase? That may be what the poster is thinking.(I know, don't assume what someone else is thinking :D )

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that separate from MB's? You can get MB whether you stay on property or not, but if you do stay on property, I believe you can still apply part of the cost of that stay to the DVC purchase.

Is this still correct?

Magical Beginnings has existed in several different configurations for years now. The ONLY current "discount" program offered is the MB described above- at VWL it is $5 per point on the 1st years points. ($10 per point at HH and VB.)

Originally, the program did allow for an exchange of some of the $$ spent on a current stay at a WDW resort for those points, but that was replaced with the "pure" point sell back a few years ago.

Thanks Debbie, Doc:
Guess that clears that up. I thought that program was still active. (Could have sworn it was still being mentioned in the ads on the in-room DVC TV channel last time we were at OKW).
