Our family just made ressies for 8 days in Jan. We have 4 adults staying all 8 days, one adult staying only 4 days (3 nights), and we are uncertain which friend my son will take so the 6th spot is uncertain. She told me to only book 5 adults for now. When we talked about the dining plan, she told me I would have to pay all 8 days for all 5 adults (even though my daughters fiancee ( medical school student) can only be there from Fri night to Monday pm. Is ther any way to do this different so I don't have to pay for the other 5 days?
Also - on the tickets, I wanted to get the tickets that are hopper, water parks and the ones that you have other recreational activities included (mini-golf and boating). She said I could not do it because I was using points. What type of tickets do I order? I want the most included as we do not always stay all together when we go to the parks.
During our stay, 1 night we are paying cash - if that makes any difference.
I am a newer member and don't understand what to do at this point. Any advice/help would be appreciated.

The dining plan is not part of a "package" for DVC and does not require park tickets to purchase it. However, it is the rule that all guests in the room be included for the entire length of the ressie. Other than the park ticket requirement, it is identical to the MYW dining plan.

As far as park ticket, DVC does not pre-sell park tickets, as Member Services does not have the ability to attach payment notations to point ressies, like Disney cash ressies.

You can purchase your tickets upon arrival at the resort or in advance on the Disney website, or from any other authorized reseller, including here on the DIS. http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/tickets.htm#hm-tickets-quicklink

I'm not sure if any tickets, other than those purchased as part of a cash package, will give you the mini-golf and boat option, though.

If the three nights that daughter's fiancee is staying are at the beginning or end of the trip you could try for two different reservations and book the DDP for the people on each- 5 or 6 on the 3 night one and 4 or 5 on the rest depending on if son's friend comes along. You may have to change rooms doing this though. I think you are referring to the package type tickets and meals that go with the premium or platinum packages through Disney. These are not available for DVC. You can get the DDP for 37.99 per adult per day.. As mentioned there are several options for geting the MYW tickets before you go but none include mini-golf or boating. Good luck and hope you have a great trip.

Thanks to all of the help. Being new, it's all still confusing. :goodvibes

Just remember you can't change it on arrival, one way or another. So better to go under than over IMO and try for an adjustment on check in if need be.

Remember that all of the meals are shared by all of the members of the reservation. If one person leaves early, the meals are still available for use by everyone else. If you buy the full plans for all in your group, it doesn't mean that you'll lose anything, it means that all in your group can eat a couple more full-service and counter service meals.

You would definitely be "gaining" and not losing in that situation.
