I think that the park hopper is just a $35 flate rate. So if you're going for 4 days it would be about $8.75 per day, if you are going for 7 days it would be $5 dollars a day. Hence the benifit of staying longer which is what the idea is. So if you look at it that way it could be well worth it, espcially since the price goes down the more you stay.

Just purchased a 5 day PH for my husband to use on our June trip. The reason I purchased the PH ticket for my husband instead of waiting to get a Magic ticket was because the ticket has no expiration and it has the ability to hop. Had I purchased the 5 day Magic with hopping and the no expiration option I would have paid more for the ticket. Due to my husbands health issues we always are at risk that he will not be able to go on the trip with my daughter and I or that he will not be able to go to the park all 5 days so I have purchased the PH for “insurance” purposes. I’m hoping to get an AP discount on our hotel so I will wait to purchase tickets based on that. Since I know my daughter and I will be going to the parks all five days and we have one day left on old PH tickets we can then purchase a 4 day Magic ticket with no add ons for 197.03 w/tax and hop only one day instead of our regular routine of two day. We will save 18.11 on the base Magic vs a 4 day PH. It did take me a while to reason it all out.

You can't park hop, but I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to leave and return to the same park on the same day. I believe you can do that already with a one day one park pass.
