Day 5
This was the day in Cozumel. We took the advice of the boards and went to Paradise Beach. It is well named. The taxi ride cost $12.00 each way. The beach, including chaises, umbrellas, floats, use of kyacks, sea trampoline and a sea climb wall was FREE.
We had a blast - the beach was great. Before we left we went to the bar for a real "Mexican" margarita, guacamole and chips and salsa.
We highly recommend all of the above.
You may question our opinion on anything once you read the below.
DH and I were on a quest to outsmart the purchase of alcohol.
We knew we could bring back a liter per person. DH enjoys black russians. Kaluhau is so inexpensive in Mexico so we wanted to bring back our allotment. We also wanted to purchase a bottle of Kaluhau and a bottle of vodka for consumption on board the ship.
We thought if we went to the duty free shop, they would restrict the number of bottles we purchased. DH and I thought we were so brilliant - We would go to a local liquor store and purchase what we wanted to consume on board the ship. We would then go to the duty free shop to purchase the bottles to bring home.
Ha - we were on a roll - we knew just what to do.
We walked quite a way in the hot afternoon Mexican sun to find a local liquor store. You know - the time when the smart people are taking siestas.
We found our mark - in we went and chose our bottle of Kaluhau and vodka. We were on a quest. Nothing was going to get in our way. We went to the checkout counter. We were informed no credit cards were excepted. Traveler's checks were not accepted either.
Out into the hot Mexican streets we went once again. We found a hotel that would cash our traveler's checks. Only a two dollar charge for this service. Wow - were we good or what? Back out into the hot sun with money in hand - we would show them. We marched in and paid cash.
On to the duty free store - you guessed it - back into the hot, hot sun. We went into the duty-free store and discovered not only could we buy as much as we wanted (You can still only take back a liter per person) but the price of the vodka was 2 1/2 times less expensive in the duty-fee shop.
We sure showed them - didn't we????
We went back to the ship and collapsed into the blue chairs on Deck 4 - nap 4.
That night we went to Palos again. Pure heaven. We turned down a window seat to be with Emmanuel. He was wonderful once more. The food was excellent - I don't think it is ever any other way. Once again portobello mushroom - filets and souffle - this night we added tiramisu - The best ever!!!!!
We returned to the cabin - We sampled the kaluaha and VERY expensive vodka. We then went to Deck 9 for the Mexcali Party. We had so much fun - we partied and danced. The effects of too much sun and too much Expensive vodka were having an effect. We lost the inhibitions we had brought on board. They were history. We were party animals. I must admit we did have alot of fun.
Day 6
The Brunch at Palos is absolutely wonderful. Everything is perfect. We did not have one thing we didn't like. We asked for Emmanuel again.
The Captains Gala was on this evening. The food was very good - especially the wild forest mushroom soup and baked clams. The lobster was good - not great and the blue cheese and asparagas risotto was very salty. Even DH thought the risotto was too salty. That amazed me as I think he would enjoy a salt lick.
