Magic Time to call?

Hi all,
I was looking to call our resort and request a building and double check the birthdays we're celebrating is still attached to our ressie. I know nothing on either of these requests is for sure but I want to do the best I can. Is there any "correct" or "better" time to call to do this? We are 16 days out and I figured maybe 7 ahead or is that too late? I know hotels do room planning about a week out sometimes more but since room requests are a huge thing for WDW resorts maybe they do them later?

Call reservations and have them note your request. No need to call the resort which is really a call center and not the resort.

But is there a particular time I should call? 7 days? 14 days? Now?
