Magic Spa after Dry Dock

When I sailed on Magic in July of last year, I was a little surprised at the general disrepair of several of the spa amenities offered. Specifically, the steam and showers in the Rainforest did not operate the way they should have, and there were several pieces of trim tile in the Rainforest room that showed considerable damage. Also, the steam and showers when my wife and I experienced the Suriel Bath were not functioning properly.

This question of anyone who has sailed since the Fall drydock: Have you observed if any of these items are in better working condition?

Just wondering as we await our next Magic voyage in June!

My husband and I had a very similiar experience on the Wonder last March. As we were about to walk into the Surial Bath, the spa attendant said, "Maintanace has been working on the bath earlier today. It should be fixed. Some of the shower heads don't work but you should still be able to use it". What she should have said was that hardly any of the shower heads worked properly. It was a major dissapointment for us. After the 60 minutes was up, I mentioned it to the attendant. She was very nice and said she would tell the manager. She came back with passes for the remainder of the day to the Rainshower. However, it was already late afternoon and we had the early dinner seating. Disney Dreams was the show that night so we didn't have an opportunity to use the passes. I wish I had been more assertive and asked for either a full or partial refund.

AFter 7 cruises (2 Wonder and 5 Magic - one being after drydock), I must say I am DISGUSTED with the way the Vista Spa is being maintained STILL! I mean, we did expect that after dry dock these things would be fixed (our cruises in 2003 were in May and August - so we knew there were serious problems) We thought that by our October cruise these would be fixed and we could actually enjoy the Rainforest.

But there wasn't a day that didn't have some part of the Rainforest broke down and out of service. Often the floor was flooded with water (inch or more, not just in spots either), the saunas were either way too hot (where you can't even sit down on the seats) or not functioning and general housekeeping was lacking in both the Rainforest and in the Women's Dressing Room.

They have started giving baskets with products you can use to sample - but have taken away the slippers (rubber sandals or flip flops), you still get the bathrobe though and a key for the locker.

I find that the personnel are very aloof and since they are NOT Disney employees they can get away with their attitude very easily. I have met some very wonderful staff there but the majority aren't very friendly or cordial.

I am a big fan of their products so I do buy quite a lot when I am at the Spa, but I still find the attitude is NOT what I have come to expect from Disney. I don't think I will ever buy a week long pass again - too many things go wrong every day there, so I will just check it out before signing in and spending my Disney Dollars there!

Sorry to sound so negative, but sometimes reality just is -

Rae,
I know exactly what you mean about the aloof attitude. THAT'S why they need to hire me - Disney obsessed Massage Therapist extraordinaire (without request of a full length photo before they will consider my resume)....

Oh well...I was really hopeful that the dry dock would clean up the spa problems in much the same way that the cancelled cruise for Norwalk really made the ship so much cleaner. Prior to that, I thought she was beginning to show her age, after, there was a great difference. It was little things like the corners of the bathrooms and under the beds.....much more attention to detail now.

So...the spa wasn't fixed and wasn't attitude adjusted. Too bad.....

Dawn - I put a good word in for you - but you have to be a certain size (height/weight in proportion) plus you have to be young, energetic, a good sales person and have THAT look - not saying that you don't, but you are too nice to be considered - sorry! Maybe you need to get "testy"!

kcashner - I know what you mean about looking ragged on the edges - I guess it will never look like it did new, but still.
Were you aware that after doing Deck 5 Aft in dry dock, the water pipe broke between 5622 and 5624 and flooded - this affected our 10/25 cruise since 5622 is "MY" stateroom and they put us up on Deck 7 (same type room - verandah). We had complained about hearing a loud banging the past cruises we were in that stateroom, and were told "water pipes" - obviously, it was water pipes! Glad we weren't there in bed when they burst!!!

Yeah, the Magic was one fine lady on that first Bahamas cruise...but the service aspects are much better now. They really have done some very heavy duty cleaning, which made me feel better. She's cleaned at least as well as my house now.

Funny...the public areas have always seemed well maintained; it was the cabins that were looking a bit worn.

Don't you love going "home" and seeing crew from the very beginning cruises?

Some have moved on, unfortunately for us!!! The last great, in my opinion, was Fidelio who was the first one to touch the pianos at Offbeats. Sure have missed Dueling Pianos and Fidelio!!!

I am hoping that someone from DCL will "shake up" Vista Spa and either get them to conform to Disney standards in attitude or hire another group to run the Spa.

We just returned from the Wonder and LOVED the Rainforest. The only thing I noticed was one of the sauna doors was not set quite square and you had to pull in shut a little hard.
Didn't seem to be any problems with the tiles or shower heads that I could see, and we spent a good part of the day in there on Tuesday.

We worked with 3 different young ladies, all of who were very nice. Tonya from the USA was my DH's favorite, and apparently quite good as he made an additional massage appointment with her.

I will admit, they did come and ask if the heated lounge chairs were heating well. There must have been an issue at some point, but all were fine that day.

Hope our experience means they are getting with the program because DH has already said we are getting a 7 day pass in October!

You said Wonder...did you mean Magic? I was wondering about that ship
