Magic San Juan cruises November/December

I think this is understable. Places where where people are desperate tend not to be the safest. Every time I've been to San Juan I've noticed a pretty big police presence on the streets. I'm sure their resources are spread thin as far as police, fire and medical.
I would not go to San Juan right now. I've done a lot of traveling around the world. I'm pretty comfortable going about anywhere. I would not go to to a city where people are desperate for basic things like food and water. I don't see the point in taking that chance.

Well unfortunately some of us are stuck with our cruise. We bought VGT rate and if we don't want to go to San Juan we miss the ship and lose all our money. We have insurance but since the ship is sailing I don't believe we have any grounds for a refund from the Insurance company. Were stuck so we have to make the best of it. My only thinking now is that I might want to fly in on that day so i don't have to do anything but get from the airport to the cruise port. Its Dec 1 so I/we would be taking a chance that we could have problems getting out of the North East so I usually like to fly a day before. Our Hotel has been called and they assure us they are up and operating and all is well with them and near them. It sucks to have this hanging over our head. The hurricane hit after PIF date so most of us on the Dec 1 cruise are stuck with having to go and Disney just informed us all is still on.

I'm sure you'll be fine spending one night. Just take precautions. Old San Juan normally is a busy place with a party type atmosphere at night. I would imagine it's not like that now. If it was me I would probably just hang out at the hotel and head to the port in the morning.

Thanks. That's what we plan to do. I just want to get on the ship!!

We're just hanging out in the hotel that night and then heading to port first thing in the morning (around 10am).

Her father has never left PR except to visit D and return...until today.

Well that's today. I thought we were talking about in the time when the airport had just opened back up and a supposed backlog of people.

I know what it's like to want to leave the place of my birth. Alas no country will take americans unless you've got money or interesting skills!

Over on cruisecritic there are some decent threads on the Royal page and the San Juan page talking about actual conditions. We're about to have embarkation for the third cruise leaving San Juan post-Maria and I haven't yet heard of a safety problem.
Worth checking out.

Just curious where you would go for a better life.

Just received an email and phone call from Disney Cruise Line and we are now going to St. John's, Antigua instead of Tortola however we are still disembarking in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I'm looking for an affordable hotel for the weekend that my children will enjoy. The hotels that Disney affiliates themselves with Caribe Hilton is currently closed and not taking any reservations. The other hotel Marriot Stillaris is expensive for me as I can not justify $1,174.99 for a three night stay. Any suggestions ?

The Holiday Inn Express is only 120/night

Isn’t Royal suppose to be going to the Virgin Islands next month?
Yes. I think they are the first ship docking in St. Thomas.

Sounds like Tortola is aiming for12/1, with 1/1 feeling more likely. St. John is still without power, so I wouldn't expect excursions there until that is resolved.
