Magic San Juan cruises November/December

Why did Disney change the December 2 cruise to a Western? So would they change one cruise to different ports for safety concerns and have another ship go to those ports the exact same week?

I have no idea...are you referring to the Magic visiting these ports that were changed for the Fantasy? I hope they figure out something soon for those booked on the Magic coming up. I can imagine how frustrating it is with everything up in the air

It is so frustrating. ON the one hand I want to believe that our trip will be great with us able to fly into San Juan, stay in a hotel and then sail out on the magic. On the other hand it sounds like most of that would be yucky as current conditions stand and DCL better get on with changing stuff. It one thing to change the itinerary of a closed loop cruise. Those people, while certainly frustrated and disappointed with the change, don't have to change flights in and out of the arrival and departure airports. But our cruises we have to change flights. Right now the airlines are being generous about changing flights in and out of San Juan but we can't do anything until DCL gives us direction. And we're all past PIF dates so were stuck! Many on this cruise have San Juan hotels booked that are no longer there!! UGH!

I can only imagine the frustration!:( I'm so sorry and I hope they let y'all know something soon...what a mess this all is:( We're booked on the NYC to San Juan next November and this has all seriously made me reconsider our cruise. Fingers crossed they let you guys know something soon!!

Thank you Anna! It is frustrating and I am trying very hard to remember that there are hundreds of people in Las Vegas area that are burying their spouses, children, parents, etc... I feel terrible complaining about a change in a vacation! I want to believe Disney would do the right thing for us, but we will have to wait and see.

I know it's ok to be upset about your vacation you've planned and looked forward to for a long time! Don't feel bad for venting or stressing about this! We all love Disney and their customer service is usually top notch...I'm sure they will take good care of you no matter what the outcome of all of this is. Hoping you guys get some answers soon:)

I hope we get some news soon. Although, we have until 11/1 to change our flight on Jet Blue to fly home. Right now we have two nights at the Marriott post cruise. I believe they will be open for guests, but if things are iffy I will just want to fly home right after the cruise and use Disney transfers to get to the airport.

I learned some new words. Force majeure, this could be the loop hole to not having to go to a distant foreign port. The frase means you don’t have to fulfill a contract when an act of God gets in the way of fulfilling it. Other cruises have had to do this and they were not given a fine due to force majeure.

Rccl has AOS scheduled to sail closed loop from San Juan this Saturday. Yes, it is insane. I will never book rccl after seeing how they operated this season.
Y'all should read any reports that come back from those cruisers to get a sense of what to expect.

Do you know they weren't fined? I've read that such instances still result in the fine being assessed, but, most of the time, they are then appealed and removed.

What did RCCL do? I thought they were the ones using this ship to transfer evacuees and to bring loads of supplies. I know some of the cruise lines have set up funds to help all the islands. Is there something RCCL did that makes you not want to sail them? Someone had to be the first to test the port. Might as well be the AOS. Curious to hear customer responses.

That cruise should be cancelled or home ported elsewhere if possible until San Juan is in better condition. A bunch of cruise passengers on a nice vacation, using up gas, food, water, while passing by the locals who are struggling to survive is not ok with me. Not to mention the logistics of getting there and back for the passengers. I wouldn't take my family down there this weekend...guarantee you that.

It's definitely a hard position for the cruise passengers and locals. The cruise industry likely knows that they are a huge huge part of the recovery. I have no idea what the actual situations are in San Juan right now. But I do believe that NOT contributing to their economy is not going to help them either.

Seems to me, if the port/island is not in shape to receive tourists, then the port would be closed to cruise ships. If the port is open, they are "up" to receiving guests.

As of today, 10/4, the cruise port in San Juan is NOT open. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, San Juan is open for daylight transits only.

The first San Juan cruise is New York to Tortola to San Juan.
This is the cruise that I am going on from November 26-December 1st 2017. I called Disney Cruise line and was told as of yet the Magic has not made any changes. However, I wish that they would let us know sooner than later so that arrangement to buy plane tickets and hotel reservations can be made in advance.
