On the 7 day Eastern, does the Magic travel to the west side of The Abacos Islands or the East side when traveling to St. Maarten?

I know that we passed the southern tip of Abaco heading from the east to castaway Cay. Castaway Cay is just south west of Abaco and you can see Abaco from the ship when docked. As for heading out on the Eastern, I not sure since we were probably asleep when we passed by.

HAWKEYEMICKEY, IS THAT THE IOWA HAWKEYS YOU NAME REFERS TO? IF SO GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow!! Tickets to the game great for you!! So is someone taking your place on the cruise? Too bad the Gators have such a home field advantage. The Hawks have been fun to watch the last two years. I just want them to beat OSU next year that team drives me NUTS!

I'm pretty sure the ship passes to the south of Grand Bahama and Abaco but north of Eletheura, heading roughly southeast, on its way to St. Maarten. It may depend on the weather, but it seems to me that this is the route we've followed when I've been on the eastern. As Surfergirl said, you pass through the Bahamas during the night on the first night, so the islands you pass will be little more than lights in the distance. Occasionally, the daily Navigators will tell you which islands you'll be passing and when, but they haven't done this every time I've sailed.

I just checked the Eastern Navigators on www.castawayclub.com . It stated the Magic will pass:
Great Abaco, 4 miles ,4 - 7am, Port
Eleuretha , 5 miles, 7 - 11am, Starboard
San Salvador, 7 miles, 2:30 - 4:30pm, Starboard

So it appears that with the Magic heading south, and port facing east, the Magic must pass the west side of Great Abaco.

Okay, I give up, what's the attraction about the Abacos?

Thanks!

They're beautiful, silly. We stayed on Eluthera many years ago, heaven on pink sand.

But seriously, one of my fondest cruise memories was sitting with my youngest son, who was barely six at the time, on the deck at Topsiders just as they opened, enjoying breakfast, and watching all those lovely places go by. We took the binoculars and had a grand time. The sea at Cape Canaveral had been rough, the Captain had run fast to get a way from it, then it seemed we were cruising slowly past these islands. It was the only time on the cruise when we went by a lot of islands. By the time all the other "lazies" in our group were up, the islands were gone.
