Could Disney be thinking of finally "finishing" the Grand Floridian to Magic Kingdom walkway?:)

Probably not,but this is an interesting picture.:)

I would think that the DVC construction there makes it a much stronger possibility. How far a walk would it be to MK if they did finish it, compared to the walk from the Contemporary & Bay Tower?

I have often wondered about the infamous path and non-existing bridge. But I had never considered a floating bridge that could be moved out of the way for the light parade and other boats that need to get through there. Huh. It would be awesome for GF to have another means of getting to/from MK.

I hope so, not that it's a huge deal because the monorail is one stop away. Only time the monorail really stinks is durning peak times when not monorail resort guest use the resort line to get to MK. So by the time the train pulls into GF it is full from people who hopped on at TTC.

Well, I at least would give them kudos for finding new ways to work around an unreliable monorail. :thumbsup2

There were a lot of rumors floating around about using a portion of the DVC from GFV for such a bridge. Have not heard anything lately.

That would make the GF villas much more appealing in my book! I hope we see this come to pass.

The "missing link" under discussion I have labelled as "Water Inlet" below.

Interesting to note.

The waterway inlet actually allows boats to connect to a major inside-the-MK waterway.

There already IS a drawbridge on that waterway inlet.
It is farther backstage.

At that same point, there is a "canal lock" that balances the
water level for boat travel between MK's
Rivers of America (surrounds Tom Sawyer Island) and the water level
of the Seven Seas Lagoon that fronts MK.

DH and I have had this discussion. If there were a walkway AND we were staying at either GF or Poly, no WAY would we walk. We'd take the launch. In fact, we'd take the launch OVER the monorail. That walk is too far. The walk from MK to CR is perfect. I get the appeal of the walkway though. It would be highly impractical for Poly guests though.

The only problem they are having related to that now is where to set up the toll plaza. And it will accept Magic Bands for the room charge.

Now, that is SERIOUSLY funny! :lmao:

Or maybe they are trying to decide where to install the Mickey heads for FP+ redemption! :rotfl:

Having just bought in at VGF, I would LOVELOVELOVE to see the walkway be completed. The walk isn't too far for the group I travel with and it would be nice to walk by the lake in the morning as we head to the MK.

I would like it too, I might actually stay at the GF if they did...As of now, I can't give up my walking path from the CR :)

Stellar catch! I don't understand the floating part though? Can't take that long to sink in a dozen cement pilings and install a pre-made bridge. But i will happily take it. I wonder if the floating part means they don't have the environmental stuff to do...(massive amount of environmental paperwork to building in a marine environment) I enjoy the walk from the CR to the service lagoon now i can do the walk to the GF or even the Poly... Unfortunately, there is a second lagoon next to the GF so we have to keep an eye on that one also... We are there in a month, i am looking forward to see what is going on.

OP, i did get nosy and looked at your other pictures... It is great seeing the Christmas decorations up around the world. Thank you for taking them. :goodvibes

The issue with installing a permanent bridge seems to be that it would have to be a drawbridge to let the floats, etc. out of that canal. For a basic bridge to be tall enough for the vehciles to pass under, it would require a huge "causeway." With a floating bridge like this, it could just be moved out of the way. Seems like a simple solution to the problem, but I'm sure there are other factors that we haven't anticipated.

You are sooooo right. It may be me getting old. But the MR seems to get worse every visit. I honestly do not remember it being so unpredictable ten years ago. It seem to just started when we would be getting a fussy child back for a nap. Seriously, I do not recall it having as many delays years ago as it does now.
