Magic Kingdom to begin test on Disney Dine on the Go

I get asked on a daily basis if Disney offers a dining plan for day guests. Just because the demographic that visits this board doesn't want this doesn't mean no one does.
I'm certain that it will sell like gangbusters. Mostly because of the way it's worded that it would save 20%. I'd love to see where they got those figures

like I posted in the previous page if you get the most expensive item at Cosmic Rays or Pecos Bill you save about $10 a day. It would just depend how much you eat and you would have to get the drink to save that amount

They dropped the dessert, but they added a snack, and there's the drink/snack sub, so it's really a wash. I actually prefer it, because we don't need to eat a dessert with every meal, and we drink water most of the time.

I think it is a much better option - we only did the plan once, years ago, and felt like with quick service we got the dessert only b/c it came with it not because we really wanted it

Seems like everyone pretty much discredits this? I can see some potential... It includes Cosmic Rays, which has $15-$16 entrees... so if you would otherwise eat here and get one of the bbq plates and a soda, then it's going to provide a $19.30 value per meal, or around $39 for $30. The catch is they lock you in to eating twice... but if you'd do that anyways... it's like getting a QSDP but without having to pay for the dessert and without having to get it for every person every meal. Since you can just buy it one-off, you could easily buy one of these and split meals. Use the band on the more expensive entree, pay cash for a cheap entree, and share the soda.

For me, the drawback would be having to add it at a service desk. It would be different if I could preload them onto my bands, but I don't see myself going out of my way to get in a line to buy this just to save a few dollars. If it becomes an addon on my MDE account I'd consider it.

I have said from day 1 of their introduction that DDP was the worst thing to come along in years and now this "DDP junior"is just another bad idea.

It definitely does not appeal to my family, but I can see where people would be all about it.

Without turning this into a debate on parenting methods, I think the teen years are a good time to test independence and responsibility. If my 15 year old chose to buy a widget instead of food, she lived with the consequence of not eating until dinner.
I really don't care what my 21 year old eats. He is an adult, he eats what he wants. And if he went hungry when he was 15, it wouldn't be a problem. But when he was 11 or 12, I would have to deal with a hungry very child.

Would I have bought it? Our son hung out with us at parks so it would have never come up. But that does t mean that parents parent the same way I do. And this gives options to parents that want it.

Also curious to see if you have to use both meals on the same day or can spread them out (and if you bought them on 2/22 could still use them on perhaps 2/24 ;) - because my DS definitely gets the biggest, most expensive burger, bbq platter, etc where ever he eats.

This is too limited for me, regardless of value.

I'm going in August on a "magical deal" so meal plan isn't an option. I normally love the dining plan, so this daily plan is something I'd consider.

But with these few restaurants, I can't guarantee that in the week, I'd eat one QS lunch and one QS dinner at these specific locations. I'm a super planner, but with a few exceptions (BOG, hotel food court) we pick our QS meals on the fly based on locationand mood. Limiting me to these few MK QS options is a no-go for me.
You can still get the dining plan with a "Magical Deal". We got it.

It's interesting to see the reaction on here. I'd pass on this offer too. But I really can't blame Disney for trying new things. As the title says, it's just a test.

It's really an upsell for people who otherwise wouldn't have spent at least $29+tax on quick service meals. I'm sure they've studied how much the average guest spends, and this increases revenue by a few dollars. Anyone who grumbles about greed, Bob Iger, or "getting less" is looking at it from a limited perspective of whether this product serves their needs. It's not designed for everyone. But Disney should try new things and see what sticks.

I do agree with that. The DDP appeals to me because it's paid for when I pay for the rest of the trip, and I don't need to think about it. I can see this appealing to someone in the same way. "Let's pay for this now and get it out of the way early in the day." We go to Hershey Park every summer, and we pre-pay for a single meal there because it's a great bargain - one adult meal plus one refillable (for $1/refill) cup for $8. We always bought the cup every year anyway, and the cup alone is something like $9. Disney needs to get on board with something like that.

thinking of this more, it's a lot like what sea world offers and that is actually a decent price compared to what they charge for a meal. now lets see what disney does price wise. taking a small loss on 2 meals vs cash in hand might be more profitable than just having someone buy 1 or possibly no meals.

I think it's them trying to poke at ways to make disney affordable where for some it'll be a small loss vs what they normally spend but for others it'll be a big win to afford it and in turn makes disney more money on the counter service when they add up what they made each day. then again, they could just lower prices and sell soda and water they get for free for a reasonable price and we'd all buy more of it.

I personally wouldn't leave an 11 or 12 year old child to her own devices at Magic Kingdom, but that's just my personal preference.

You have to use the vouchers in the next 14 days of the date on them (they stamp the date when you buy them)
