Magic Kingdom Swap

II'm really not this picky I just don't want to waste my time if I'm not gonna get back quality work I hope nobody take offense.

I know you weren't trying to offend anyone but you probably did. I know I was slightly offended by the post. A lot of people who would like to join in swaps are already feeling a little shakey since they are "newbies" here and they may have been ready to take the plunge and join this swap. If I were a newbie to swaps, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be joining. swapping is supposed to be FUN people. Not everyone scraps the same and everyone's level is different. If you want a more "regulated" swap, try lifetime moments. The disboards swaps are (or used to be anyhow) open and welcoming to anyone who wants to try swapping. No references required, just a desire to join and follow through.
On that note, let the swapping begin! :wizard:

I reread my post. Ooops I forgot to say the swappers in that swap said they weren't beginners but advanced. So I excepted more. If I knew they were beginners it wouldn't have bothered me at all because I was once a beginner and like I said I'm not great some might even say not good. But I put effort into what I do and what I got back had no effort at all

another note those "newbies" here (myself included) I'm sorry if I offended you I didn't mean to. Don't listen to my rambling. Swapping is fun and should be so don't ever back down from a swap because a big mouth like me :wave2: What made me mad in that swap was the lieing. So please if you were thinking about joining this swap go for it that is the only way you get more comfortable in what you do. Practice Practice pratice. I know it took me awhile to feel comfortable enough to join. Sometimes I'm still not sure if I should but I always tell the truth on my "skills" (if you can call them that) or I show things that I have done. Like I said I'm not great some might not even call me good but that is why I share my work :o)
again I'm sorry

I know I swore I wasn't going to do anymore swapping for a while, so I am just "looking" lol! The different lands idea sounds like a great one.

I think it would be a good idea for anyone new to swapping to look at the prior swaps or check out 2Peas (Disney themes in the gallery) to get some ideas and then think about what would be easiest for them to make. Don't go for the paper piecing or shakers first time out. And once you get your idea, think about how you want to embellish it a bit (it doesn't have to be over the top but it does need something). Double matting, brads or eyelets, even just inking or chalking the edges of an item adds depth. We were all newbies to swapping at some time or other.

This swap sounds like alot of fun. I did my first swap in Nov. 2005 was kinda of worried at first that what I did wouldn't be as good as all the others. But my best friend incouraged me to go for it. I was so glad I did! The things I got back was GREAT! Ended up that my items was just as good. We all have to remember starting out in something first can be scarry but given a chance can end up being a good thing! We all do our best.

When this swap starts I would love to join!

A crafter at heart:love:

Okay, I have to take it easy on swaps since I've been really busy with them, but count me in anyway.

Everyone has to start somewhere and swaps are a great way to see other people's work and learn from it. I know that I would not have gotten ideas and learned how to piece together "quality" items without participating in swaps where I saw what others had done. Most of the swaps here on the DisBoards do not have strict requirements for skill level so most of them are great for beginners to experts.

The requirements, if any, will be requested by the hostess (ie using Bazzill only, or embellish twice, double matting, size requirements, etc). Most swaps aren't real stringent so you can really use your imagination.

I think many will agree with me when I say the first requirement of a swapper is to be committed and communicative. Do not sign up if you can't follow through on your commitment. Others count on you to finish your pieces on time and get them sent in. If something should come up, say something sooner rather than later so that someone can take your place or offer to help you out.

Secondly is to just do the same quality work that you would be proud to put in your own scrapbook. Plain and simple, doesn't matter how fancy it is -- just make it something you would happy to receive yourself.

Does that make sense??

Now, that being said, I'm putting myself on a little swap moratorium for the time being. I have 5 or 6 swap packages sitting here and have not touched them at all. I need to do some layouts before I start creating more elements! So have FUN swapping and I can't wait to see the great work!

I would love to participate but would like to have more info about the requirements before I commit.

And let me start with my first question of many: There will be 4 elements for each land and that will be split between 2 different people, right?

I may be interested in this swap. Will have to keep an eye on it & see how quick it progresses. 15 sounds like a good number, not too many to do.

Kathy

For those new to swaps, here is my plan:

1. Each land will have 2 people sign up for it.

2. One person will pick either 2 borders or a topper and another element.

Second person will pick either photo mat or frame and another element.

All of the above should be double matted and embellished as needed.

3. Other elements would be your choice of:
**library pocket and tag
**embellished tag--eyelet and fiber
**4 decorated/embellished squares
**journal box, double mat and embellish
**two slide mounts
**altered cd
**altered playing card
**mini file folder

4. There are 7 lands, so 2 people per land would be 14.

5. Then 1 person would do a "magic Kingdom" topper, title, etc and another element of choice.

6. 15 people total per group.

7. Each person would make 15 of each items they sign up for.

8. If first group fills, we can start another group.

I will post sign ups on Sunday, January 8, 8--9 p.m. cst. Will depend when we get home for ds afternoon activity.

I want to encourage all our newbies to take part. I was scared my first swap too as I had seen the quality of the swap pieces and I had never done this before, though I had made books for other people. But I did as bubbasmomma99 said--make the quality that you would be proud to put in your book and to give to others to put in theirs. I have learned something new from every swap. And, whenever I show the items I receive to my scrapping friends, they always ooh and aah and can't believe how well things seem to go together when, for the most part (Other than bazzill colors or when we did the fall sports swap in colors) we don't restrict to only using certain colors or to only using certain papers like some swaps do!

I am new to this too. Could somebody explain what these are?

topper
library pocket and tag
decorated/embellished squares
journal box, double mat and embellish
two slide mounts
altered cd
altered playing card
mini file folder

I just did my first swap and am now hooked. I'd be interested in giving this one a shot too.

I think I'm going to join this one and have a go! I assume this is the WDW Magic Kingdom we're referring to, I know the rides differ between parks.

Topper - like a title; usually horizontal; 8.5 inches. Sample with poem: http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=4084831&a=31768328&p=71836404

library pocket & tag - looks like the old pockets in the back of library books with a tag in it. There's one here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/79038873@N00/73682375/in/set-1582454/

squares - set of 4; double matted; 2" square. Here's a sample at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/79038873@N00/73682384/in/set-1582454/

journal box - set of 2; double matted with some embellishment; at least a 2x2 writing area (I know - sounds too small, but those are the directions from my first swap. I make them larger usually, but if I make one close to that size, the other is usually larger...I always have too much to say for that size. LOL) Sample is at (with squares): http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=4084831&a=31768328&p=71836402

slide mounts - looks like a regular slide mount but embellished, can be an actual plastic or cardboard mount or use the Sizzix die (making it basically a mini frame) Sample with topper is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/79038873@N00/73713205/in/set-1583059/

altered cd/playing card - actually a CD or card that is embellished These aren't ours, but you can look at CDs posted over at 2Peas: http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/pg.asp?gallery=1
Nicurn posted this card over on 2Peas: http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=642693

mini file folder - looks like a regular file folder except smaller; Sizzix has a die & Colluzzle has a template to make these
Nicurn posted photos of a whole set of these on 2Peas: http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=618891

Check the "Swap Calendar" thread stuck at the top of this forum for links to photos of past swap elements.

Well that's bizarre! I was able to see the photos at the addresses I copied. Maybe you could just look through all the photos linked in the "Swap Calendar" thread stickied at the top of the forum. Sorry! :(

ETA: I fixed them - sorry about before. :confused3

hmm I wonder why you can't find me. Maybe you should give that tip to hubby he's been trying to lose me for years lol

try this
oh well still can't add sites so I'll just add it to my siggy :o)

Thanks, piratesmate, for posting the descriptions.

I am battling laryngitis, a bad cough, and general yuckiness. Cough syrup makes me so sleepy, so I haven't been on to watch this thread and answer questions as I should. You are all so great to help out! That's what I like about our group!

np - I was just procrastinating about other stuff I needed to do.

I hope you're feeling better soon! ::yes::

Someone today posted a great site with all sorts of how-to instructions, including pretty much every element talked about here.

Its called Scrap Friends. It's terrific!

I printed myself a template for the library pockets because I had never done those before. The funny thing is I spent 7 years working in a library all through high school and college and one of my many jobs was putting those pockets in the books. It's so strange to me to be dealing with them again!! And do my old coworkers know the goldmine they're sitting on with boxes and boxes of those pockets? :)

This is sounding like a lot of fun. My table in my scraproom is covered with Disney right now. Given that the table seats 8 people comfortably, that's really saying something.

A quick question before the sign-up starts. Do all of the 15 copies have to be exactly the same? If I was making journaling boxes and I wanted to add an embellishment sticker in the corner, does it still count if I use a variety of different but similar stickers? I'm thinking of some wonderful Mickey square stickers that I have which would be great, but they're not all the same.
