Hi all, have been going to Disney World for the past 20 years, but have never been there for when the parks open! Heading there this weekend, and want to do something new. So I'm just wondering, does the Magic Kingdom do the little "Rope Drop Show", everyday? Or just on certain days?

The Magic Kingdom has a RD show everyday! Its the perfect bit of magic to start off the day I highly recommend making it!

Great! Thank you so much! We're definitely going to do it this time round! Can't wait!

Yep - everyday!

We just caught it for the first time in years on this last visit & it was an AWESOME way to start the morning off! DD LOVED it!

whilst we enjoyed the rd show, it was very busy -we felt extremely squashed-
so we won't be doing it again. :goodvibes

have reported that the show can be presented in three lengths with one being very short. We always seem to hit the full version so I assume that is the most frequent.

It seemed like it was 15 minutes (there abouts) before opening when i went. We went during extra magic hours and it wasn't crowded at all! most people were jammed over by the entrances to get in and I had a clear view to film. I have a video if anyone wants to see it. It was about 7 minutes long I think. I liked it! I want to be the family that rides with Mickey to open the park!

So if we go to extra magic hour (park opens at 8 instead of 9)and we want to be there early to see the Rope Drop show...What time do we need to be there? 7:30?

That is about what time we got there I believe. I wanted to get there sooner but my other party was a bit slower. The show started, I believe, about 10-15 minutes later I think. It may have been quicker. I really don't remember too much. They let everyone in several minutes early, which was the case most days I got to the parks before opening. Only Magic Kingdom had a show while I was there. I heard Hollywood Studios does but not the day I was there at open.

The rope drop is done everyday. It is a nice experience if you have never had the chance to see or participate in. Similiar rope drops occur at each of the parks at opening.

IS there a roping going back up show when the parks close?

Yes. Just make sure you get out before it goes back up or you'll be stuck in for the night. If you do make it out the exit, make sure to turn around or you'll miss it

Hahaha. No seriously, what is a rope drop show?

It's a welcoming show with characters as the park opens in the morning. You can probably google videos of it, but here is a picture:

In 2009 we got to EPCOT over an hour before opening. There may have been 50 of us gathered there. Someone in green (The Mayor?) invited all of the early birds into the park and the gates were locked behind us. There was a short presentation (I'm partially deaf so I can't tell you what exactly was said) then we were led to the area beyond Innovations and were entertained by a high school marching band. Everyone was then lead into Soaring to ride! After the ride finished they invited anyone who would like to to remain for an additional ride. My DS was so excited and I was getting very dizzy, so I closed my eyes and made it through. Again they invited the crowd to remain. I looked at DS and said, I'll be waiting at the exit! He rode it 4 times in a row! When he exited the masses where just storming the place!

We've only missed rope drop once in all of my years going to Disney and that was because it was hailing and storming! We've had quite a few surprises by being there early. The family in front of us at MK was asked to join the opening ceremony one year.

I've always wanted to do a rope drop but my family are not really morning people so on this solo trip I wanna do as many as possible

What should I expect at the end of January as far as crowds at rope drop, I know it will be lower then our normal crowd levels through out the day(usual trips April-May)

Does anyone know, if the extra magical opening hour is at 8am, but the park officially opens at 9am, do they do a rope drop show again at 9am?
