Magic Kingdom Photoshoot Question

I would be so disappointed if one of our castle shots wasn't in focus. :guilty: Who was your photographer?

You know what, I had been reluctant to name my photographer but I've had contact by several brides over the last while who have gone through something similar... my situation isn't nearly as uncommon as I'd thought. Also, if someone wanted to do a good search, I mentioned the name in my review four years ago anyway.

I had Ty. I've heard raves about him, but apparently he didn't like us (he actually scolded us for not using DPS for our wedding) or having a very off day. 1/2 my photos were out of focus, including every single shot with the castle. :sad2:

I remember reading a few brides being disappointed with Ty. That he wasn't the warmest or whatnot. I know I also remember some brides being thrilled with his work. Seems hit or miss, which really is not fair when this is a once in a lifetime chance. Although I keep trying to convince DH to go back and do a maternity shoot...I swear, Regina could make me look good even 6 months pregnant, I KNOW she could lol.

I understand that they can't guarantee photographer requests, honestly though...I requested Regina or Amy and I would have changed our date if I had to. I just didn't love the other photographer's work...or rather, it wasn't the style I was looking for. The system clearly needs some changing.

I hear ya, Ember!

I will say that asking to exactly re-create a specific shot you've seen can be tricky. We picked our MK photographer based on one shot of his we'd seen that we wanted to replicate, and our shoot was a disaster. Even that "signature" shot that was the whole reason for picking him didn't work.

That said, if you like the rest of a photographer's work (or at least what you've been able to see, since the DPS site only shows selects for each photographer) you have a better chance of being happy with the entire shoot. Even if that one shot you really wanted doesn't work out, it might be that s/he comes up with new and different shots that you like better.

This exactly. I actually completely agree. We requested two photographers, got lucky, and the only shot we actually requested was my hubby's begging for this:

Which, you know, while I love it, it wasn't EXACTLY my vision when I thought about our MK photo session. :rotfl:

Try to let it just happen, it's nerve wracking...I know. Seems like terrible advice.

Ember,

Thank you for your candid response. My fiancee and I went back and read your review...all 9 pages of it. Wow is all we can say. Your reasons for Disney being so special mirror ours in some ways ('reconnected' there, engaged there, so many kid memories) and we can't imagine going through that process. Frankly, we are now a bit nervous. You can't recreate that...it's truly like all your eggs are in one basket for a once in a lifetime opportunity. We appreciate your words and hoping for the best. You two look like such a happy couple...continued best wishes.

Side tangent... Phil and I are having Disney do all the photography to meet our minimums. In a budget free world, I'd book the Roots, I love their work. :(

To those of you who have (successfully) used DWP for their photography, what was it like? This is my first experience in having someone shoot us throughout the day (we'll have 10 hours, woosh!). I don't really want obvious staged photos as much as I do want a photojournalism style and I am hoping that the DWP can achieve that style (I've seen some examples of DWF that were like what I am mentioning, and I know it varies by photographer... we've requested Amy or Regina but that's all a crapshoot).

Regardless, do they try to pose you? Do they make suggestions? Do they just let us frolic around and snap whatever they can? I have sample ideas of things I would like to try to do, but am open to whatever the photographer recommends, but also want spontaneous shots... but I'm also not a model and I don't know what angles will look good nor do I want to pay so much money to do all the work! I guess I have an idea in my mind that they photographer will snap oodles of photos, a megaton, and there will be real gems in there hopefully. Am I way off in that mindset?

For those of you who had a DWP, what was it like???

Ember, I am also so very sorry you had that experience, and worse yet, that it took so long for you to see an end to the madness. In no way will it replace what you have lost, and it makes me very nervous to be using DWP!

Since I loved Regina, I pretty much let her make all the suggestions (I only had one that I suggested). I haven't gotten our professional pictures back yet but I know that before and after the ceremony she did pose us a lot for creative pictures (which I love so its what I had asked for) but I noticed during the reception she was getting a bunch of spontaneous shots. I think if you had a preference for one over the other, just let your photographer know!

I have another question about the MK photoshoot.... not meaning to hijack a thread, but this seems like a good place to ask instead of starting a whole new thread.

How far in advance can you book your photoshoot?
