We used to watch the parade from the handicapped viewing area in the hub, Is that area still available with the ongoing construction or will we need to use one of the other handicapped viewing areas? Thanks. :)

It is still listed on the most current park map for guests with disabilities on the Disney website. That map was posted in August, so pretty recent, and definitely after construction began.

I'd suggest checking the area out before the parade, so you can see how the construction affects it. The area will not be marked until close to the parade (about an hour before), so you won't be able exactly where it will be. You should be able to get a general idea though.

Thank you. I had already looked at that map but wasn't sure how accurately it was updated. I will follow your advice and check out the area when we arrive at the park. Thanks again.

It's probably a good idea to ask some CM's about it, too - they might have more information on the day of the parade than is known beforehand.

A little off topic but when we go to disney next year I am planning on renting an ecv bc I have a really bad ankle and I know it won't be able to take all that walking. For the parades would I be considered handicap since I have the ecv and have to go to the handicap section? Also would my family members be able to join me there as well?

You would be allowed into the H/C reserved section, but you would NOT be REQUIRED to watch the parade from here. At least one member of your family could join you -- it depends how busy/crowded it is whether more would be allowed; they really squeeze the wheelchairs and ECVs in tightly, elbow to elbow. Anyone with you would need to sit in front or stand behind.

We've tried the reserved sections but my family has found we prefer to grab our own spot along the route and use it as a rest/snack break.

Enjoy your vacation!

I'm not giving the official answer, just my experience. Any place that is set aside for handicap parade viewing will get quite a few ECVs and wheelchairs. So many that CMs handling the area will have them in rows, 2-3 deep as the space allows. Sometimes I would be a couple inches from an ECV or wheelchair on either side of me. There will be handicapped people with serious issues who need a companion to stay with them, and that companion will be asked to crouch or otherwise keep low so other handicapped people in the area can see.

In your situation, your group will be asked to stand at the back of the handicap area, and you won't be interacting with them during the parade. It's also possible, based on crowds, that the CMs handling the handicap area may limit the number of your family who can join you in the area. Again, this is my experience.

You don't have to situate yourself in the handicap viewing area. If you arrive early enough, you could park your ECV at the curb anywhere along the parade route. When I say early, I'm talking about at least an hour early. If you and your friends want to hang around with you that long, because of your viewing needs, that would be nice. Else, perhaps one or two could stay with you, and the others join you after the parade.
