We're coming to Disney in a week in a half (can't wait!) with two teenagers and will have 2 Magic Kingdom days.
Epcot and Hollywood Studios were easier to come up with a basic plan but I'm stuck on Magic Kingdom so looking for suggestions.
Assume for at least one of the days we will do early entry.

  • Must Dos: Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Pirates
  • Others to Ride: Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan, Buzz, Winnie the Pooh, Tomorrowland Speedway, It's a Small World, Little Mermaid
  • Others if Time: Monster's Inc, Mickey's Philharmagic
Thinking of going to Space for early entry.

Then what?
  1. Best to book a LL for Jungle Cruise and then next LL for Peter Pan since they fill up quick?
  2. Or should we book Jungle Cruise on one MK day and Peter Pan on the other MK day so we don't waste 2 hours each time waiting to be eligible to book next LL? Next go to Frontierland for Big Thunder and Splash as standby? Or better to do some standby rides in Fantasyland and try to the other mountains as a LL?
  3. Or should we book the first LL for say Splash Mountain and go next to Jungle Cruise or Peter Pan as stand by after Space (whichever is shorter)?
I know it might depend on wait times (which aren't supposed to be horrible end of August)
Having a hard time figuring out how to tackle MK...I want to have a basic idea and then we can change it when there if needed.

I believe this is what I did, especially since they go fast.

Thanks. Maybe we will do that too. Otherwise at 7am we book one, then at 11am we book another and then can't book a LL for a mountain or until until 1pm. At least that way , we can book mountain at 11am (or other ride depending on what we go for).

I agree with doing an LL for Peter Pan's Flight one day and then Jungle Cruise the next. Here's some suggestions:

On the first day, rope drop Big Thunder Mountain Railroad & Splash Mountain. Go over to Adventureland and LL Jungle Cruise, and then do Pirates of the Caribbean. Then I'd recommend going to Skipper Canteen for lunch, and Aloha Isle to eat Dole Whip for dessert.

After that, I'd head over to Tomorrowland. Do Buzz, then Tomorrowland Speedway, and then Space Mountain. It should be late afternoon, so you probably just walk around, watch the works or go back to your hotel early to relax.

On the second day, rope drop Haunted Mansion, then do Winnie the Pooh before doing a LL for Peter Pan's Flight. On this day you can probably just take your time, eat some snacks, shop, do some meet and greets, or fit in any other rides you like at Fantasyland. If your looking for a cheap lunch, go to Friar's Book but if you want something more fancy, you can do the belle or Cinderella restaurant.

In the afternoon do the little mermaid, it's a small world, Monster's Inc and then Mickey's PhilarMagic. If you want, in between rides you could meet Belle or Peter Pan, or other characters at Fantasyland. You could popular fir in the dumbo ride and mad tea party if you want to ride those, and then settle down in the evening with a table service dinner and watching the fireworks.

I hope these suggestions help, I'm not the most experienced Disney planner as I'm only planning my first trip to disney world in October but I hope you enjoy your trip no matter what you do!

Thank you so much. Appreciate the details. This is great.

I sat down with my kids on the weekend to come up with a plan...and we agreed with the suggestion of LL for Peter Pan one day and LL for Jungle Cruise the other day. By rope drop, do you mean Early Entry? If so, Big Thunder/Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion aren't open for early entry. So our plan was to try for Space Mountain on one early entry morning and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train on the other. But we could then follow your suggestion... e.g. LL for Jungle Cruise, Early Entry for 7DMT then head for Splash and Big Thunder, etc. and fit in Jungle Cruise according to the time.

This sounds really good, and sorry about the confusion with rope drop, I think it either refers to early morning hours or doing a certain ride first thing in the morning, but I'm still figuring out the Disney language haha. Here are a few more suggestions: For the second day at Fantasyland, you can probably do all the rides I mentioned in no particular order, since they all seem to have not too bad wait times, unlike SDMT or BTMR. And as for the restaurants, I can't really tell you which are worth it and which aren't, but I definitely think you should look up the site allears, as they have reviews of restaurants from actual people who have visited the parks, as well a ton of news and information daily. It's sort of like a disney trip advisor. Or, just quite literally stick with your gut and decide where to go on the day. I also think your schedule isn't so full that you'll be able to to watch a parade or fireworks, if that's your thing, but make sure to figure your viewing location beforehand and get there early.

Again, I hope my rookie knowledge helps, although there are a ton of websites if you need anymore info.

Thank you. Our kids are teenagers so we will skip things like Dumbo and Barnstormer, but can see doing a few things more than once such as the mountains and Haunted Mansion (my favorite!)..but things like Winnie and Little Mermaid are still on our list. And definitely fireworks and maybe a parade.
Your order helps!
My kids have been watching videos of best snacks so they've already planned out those...lol...and I've also noted some of the QS and what they offer.

Oh yes, I'm going with my teenage daughter to disney world, and she does want to skip some of the little kid rides but still enjoy other classic rides. Personally, I've never really enjoyed parades, but I think the fireworks will be pretty great. Ah yes, my daughter has been doing the same thing! I think we do want to try places like Friar's Nook & Pinocchio's Village Haus, and I can't wait to try a dole whip or mickey's pretzel!

Dole whip is one of our "must have" snacks.
Funny thing is Winnie, Peter Pan and Little Mermaid (my DD's favorite when she was 5) are "my" must dos, but our kids, a 13 year old girl and 17 year old boy will tolerate them...lol.
The planning is fun, isn't it?

Haha... I think even when you're an adult, when it comes to Disney World, you really become a child at heart. My daughter is 14, and still definitely wants to go on Peter Pan, Little Mermaid, Mad Tea Party, Haunted Mansion, etc but that's mostly because she doesn't really like roller coasters. And yes, the planning is definitely fun! I know some people do like to just wing it and decide on the day, not realizing that, especially for a sort of once in a lifetime or at least a once for a very long time trip, you have to have a solid plan to to what everyone in your party wants to do and how to beat lines etc.
