Magic Kingdom Concession/Merch Lines are a Free-For-All

Disney does a good job managing the lines for rides - they have the most obvious queues, and it would be total chaos if they didn’t. The situation with merch and concessions stands is not as consistent, though.

Epcot and Animal Kingdom have roped boundaries at basically every queue. Hollywood Studios has less-defined queues, but the guests generally act decently about it.

Magic Kingdom’s queues are a free for all. Most have no rope, and let the guests form their own line. But then there’s a family with kids who are all over the place, or a clueless imbecile who forms their own rogue line, or a genuine line-cutter.

When there is a semblance of line control, it’s not enforced. The refreshment stand across from the exit at Country Bear Jamboree has “entry” and “exit” signs and a wooden barrier (with inexplicable two foot gap). Guests formed their own line trough the two foot gap, and exited out the “entry” side.

I had a huge bulky stroller, and it took me attempts at three different concessions stands before I could purchase a soda.

Disney understands the need for line control at 3 of their 4 parks. For whatever reason, Magic Kingdom is the one place where they expect people to follow the honor system.
