Hi, I don't post often as you can see but I'd like to ask you knowledgeable DISboard members if you can help me with information on the Barbershop at Magic Kingdom. I have a friend that taking their grandson down to DisneyWorld in March. I was telling her how it would be neat for either her husband or grandson to have their haircut at the Barbershop. I remember some of you posting your precious stories of hubbies and kids and I am hoping you can tell me some of your stories and knowledge on this fun endeavor. Thank you so much! :thanks:

We were just down. Our almost 3 DS hates getting his haircut and cried about it until he sat down. Then it was magical. Penny had him sitting and cut and laughing and smiling. Great cut and he got pixie dust in his hair. His sister did too and they both loved it. We waiting all week for a good time where there wasn't much of a wait, they tend to be busy. Kid cuts were $14 and I believe adult cuts are $17 but don't quote me on that one. It was fun.

There was a "Norma" in the shop cutting too but I had heard some sour stories about her here and I can tell you, she wasn't very happy when we were there either. We steered clear of her.

My DD5 and niece-11 got their haircut there last month. My dd had it done before but this time they put red streaks in her hair. My niece really liked it because her mom is the only one that cuts her hair. They put blue in her hair. Both of them got some "mickey" dust. I'm thinking they were $12 each, but I may be wrong. One thing to remember is that the coloring will stay sticky all day. It does wash out of clothes. The CM's don't like it if you run up and give a character a hug since it gets on them.

You would think that they would have a spray for in the hair instead of a gel. Who knows!

When we went, the woman who cut DDs hair was named Billie and I'd recommend her any day of the week. She was sweet, did a good job, and even put some pixie dust in MY hair when DD asked her too. The bits falling out of my hair had DD laughing for hours, so it was worth it. :) I got some cute pix (with props), DD got a 'first haircut' certificate, and Billie even wrapped up a lock of hair for me to take home in case I wanted to keep that.

DFi got his hair cut in the MK last Saturday. The prices were: Kids $14, Adults $17 and pixie dust is $5 extra. DFi didn't want the pixie dust, but he got the BEST hair cut ever. Penny was in there doing some first hair cuts and I think it was Michael who cut DFi's hair. They were both really good. The kids getting their first hair cuts even got some Mickey ears saying "First Haircut" on the back.

Michael has cut ours before and has been wonderful with the kids. He whispers to them and keeps them enthralled so they don't realize their hair is getting cut. The whole process went by quickly and was a great experience for them.

Our DD got her first haircut there 2 years ago. She got the haircut, pixie dust and a "First Haircut" Mickey Ears hat, First haircut Certificate and we were only charged $5. Adorable props too :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Do you need to make an appointment or do you just walk in? Is it on Main Street ? :confused3 I can't believe I have never been in there or seen it !!!
Does anyone have any picts. of the place or getting your hair done???????

It's a first come, first serve shop. No appointments. We have learned to go first thing in the morning because it seems like every time we've tried to get our boy's (4 and 8) haricuts in the afternoon on past trips the wait was very long. We had both of them cut in January and the barbers really did a nice job. They each chose to get a colored gel and pixie dust on the top of their hair (the barbers spike it up) as well as a Mickey made of colored gel on the back of their hair. We paid $14 each for the cut and did not have to pay $5 extra for the pixie dust. Really made for great pictures the whole day. We had so many nice comments and questions on where to get it done through out the day. It took a few washings along with combing the confetti out to get it all out that night, but they didn't complain. The boys each said they'd rather get their hair cut at park opening on our next trip in May before heading to the rides.

Can anyone tell me where in the park the barbershop lies? I want to take DD 18mo there for her first haircut, but I don't know where it is!

when you walk into the MK its on the left of the circle just as you come in
i wish i knew about this when i 1st started going
its 1 of my favorite things
and if you get lucky the barbershop quartet will come in
so much fun
and the pixie dust in the hair !!! love it

Hope it helps, both kids had their haircuts their, ds was his first and got the hat as well. Will do again as they loved it!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I kept hearing about this place on Main Street but, for some reason, could never find it as I thought it was somewhere on the street itself rather than in the Main Street Plaza area. Anyways, I finally wandered over to the far left of the plaza near the doors that swallow up the parade and poked my head into the Barbershop. What a cool little find it!! It was a very small room but was decked out in antique furniture and even an antique cash register. So cool. If I had a kid, I would take them there in a heartbeat for a cut...especially, if it was their first haircut.

My dd, now 12, has had several back to school haircuts with Michael before. He is terrific. Our regular hairstylist, while on a trip to WDW with her family, actually stuck her head in the shop one day and told Michael to quit stealing her customers!!!
You may have a longish wait but it's fun to watch everyone get their haircuts. While we were waiting for our turn we started talking to a nice young man in line behind us. Turns out he was a CM, on his day off, getting his regular trim!!! Evidently a lot of the CMs get their haircuts there.

micheal even put Mickey stickers over my DD8s mouth so she couldnt talk while I was explaining to him how i wanted it cut . It is well worth the wait and the $

my recent barbershop experience.
When looking for the barbershop look for the old fashioned barber's pole, you know the red and white ones, that's how I spotted it. It's to the left upon entering past the City Hall, but before you get "funneled" into main street itself. HTH.
