Magic Key Upgrade

Is the reason you could lose your reservation/not get back into the park because there are no Magic Key reservations available for that day? I have 5 day hoppers in October that we will probably want to upgrade because we may be staying additional days. Should I just watch the calendar to be sure MK reservations are available to determine which day I upgrade?

I’m planning on upgrading when we go in November. Do I just need to do it prior to the parks closing on our last day? I’m afraid of missing the window to upgrade and/or losing my reservation and ability to access the parks that day

I would wait until the afternoon of the last day. I upgraded my ticket on a Saturday, and the cast member warned me that I might lose my reservation. I specifically went to the parks to upgrade to a Magic Key so I was all right with that. Before I left the ticket booth she checked to make sure that I still had a reservation, and I did. So, you do take a chance when you upgrade your tickets. I don't know if Disneyland has changed since I did mine on 28 August.

May I ask what kind of tickets you had? Regular tickets? CA resident ticket?

The CA resident ticket is not eligible to be upgraded. I had a Tier 5 park hopper ticket and a Tier 5 1-day/1-park ticket. I decided to use the cheaper one, along with my Visa rewards, gift card, and Disney Visa.

I gave the hopper to my brother, who then upgraded to the Imagine Magic Key since he'll go during the week instead of the weekends. My other option was to hold on to it and use it to renew my pass next year.
