Magic Key Program

I really really think they need to clarify before Magic Key passes go on sale whether keyholders will receive any Genie+ benefits included. I don‘t think I would be interested in a pass that is going to upcharge me both for parking and for the right to use FastPass on a per-visit basis. The whole idea of a membership is that the basics are included, so I can feel like I‘m part of Disneyland, and that I can come visit “home” when I feel like it.

I can get used to the idea of reservations as a necessity (even though Disneyland isn’t promising any transparency in how many reservations are actually available and how many passes they will sell to fill those reservations.. which is kind of problematic). But then lets say I want to join in for some after-work fun on a Friday night… will I really want to pay $20 per person to hop in two lighting lanes? I’m thinking I will rarely pay for this service, but will value it a lot more if it were included in my Magic Key price.

They already did clarify that, At initial launch, there would be no discounts or annual add on options for key holders. It will be the same for everyone, regardless of pass type. The official Disney Parks Blog account answered that question on social media after someone asked in the comments.

My issue is with the Disney run locations that don't give discounts, like Adorable Snowman treats, Schmoozies, and a few others. They have actual registers. They should be able to apply discounts, but they don't.
Has something to do with not having an oven.
This is a really interesting approach. I like it. If you stop making payments on your pass, do you know if Disney ever put a penalty against users? Such as reporting it to a credit agency or refusing to let you use payment plans in the future?

If there is no penalty other than getting your pass deactivated, that‘s a pretty good additional reason to use the payment plan.
You won't be able to get a new pass til the old pass is paid off. There have been several people in the past who complained that they had to pay off a pass they only used for a few months and defaulted on payments, then couldn't get a new pass.

An oven?

And if the parks closed and Disney didn't do SOMETHING for passholders and just expected payment without providing access, I'd never buy an annual pass again, so it wouldn't be an issue.

I've read through the thread and searched it....

I can't find what the window for reservations is for Magic Key holders? Is it 90 days or 120 days? Do we know yet?

I called about switching out my current onsite reservation that includes hoppers. I wanted to convert one of the hoppers to the Magic Key pass and asked about this. Rumor was 90 days for park reservations for Key but it's 120 with my current hoppers. I've already reserved my park days for Dec with the hoppers, but what happens if I upgrade one to a Key? I was told that the Key passes were, indeed, 90 days for reservations and I'd have to cancel my current room + hoppers package, even though I only want to change one of the hoppers to a pass, and rebook both the room and the park reservations, which means I could rebook the parks as soon as I rebook the package for ONE of us but the other has to wait another month. Not really sure what to do.

Not sure I’m going to buy the dream key anymore. This new fastpass announcement is making me think I may not enjoy DL as much and won’t go as much so I’ll either wait and see or go with the imagine key.
Curiously we've made a similar re-eval. Funny how quickly we went from to top tier to the bottom tier. Hmm. And we'll also be taking a wait and see; we don't plan to purchase anything until our mid-Oct visit (hard ticket event).

Thanks for the info. Yeah, there is not a lot of flexibility for existing ticket-holders.

Thought of another thing (apologies if brought up before).... I wonder if Disney will have some type of system in place if you cancel too many in a row? Basically, what would stop all Dream Keyholders from booking the next 6 days out and just cancel one day at a time by 11:59pm the night before.

That would create an endless 'loop' of reservations so people could go anytime they wanted (book 6, cancel 1, book the next 6th day out, etc.). It may sound odd but again, DL is such a locals park I could see guests trying that.

I understand the 3 no-show rule but nothing is said about canceling multiple times.

I highly doubt they would punish you for that since you are freeing up a day of reservation.

It's not in their T&C's and was never an issue with flex passports, as far as I remember. You would get a pat on the back from me for following their rules EXACTLY. haha.

The downside to an AP holder doing this is if there is a high demand day within the next 90 days, all 6 of your reservations are tied up. If I were local and had the top tier pass, and wanted to go almost daily or something, I would hold back 2-3 days for high demand upcoming days, and the float the remaining 3-4 days in the manner you mentioned.

The true test of this will come in the October/November/December windows as AP uptake goes up and the fall/early winter season is notoriously the busiest times in park (pre-pandemic).

FAQs

Confirmed 90 day reservation window.

Confirmed park hopping requires ONE reservation, but you have to select your date as a park hopping one.

Confirmed NO Magic Key sales at ticket booths, and passes linked on the app can be upgraded directly in the app...no need to visit a booth.
Thanks for posting this. We are going Labor Day so I guess the key for me to whether we will upgrade is figuring out how important that 120 day advantage is for holidays/busy times going forward. Do you happen to know how the buckets will be (i.e. will they have a separate hotel bucket that will allow me two ways of getting a reservation as we always stay on property).

Also something very important for those who have current multi day tickets and want to use them to upgrade to Magic Keys.

Ticket based park reservations will be cancelled after upgrade. Guests will need to book new reservations with their new Magic Key pass.

From what I can tell, a hotel reservation will get you access to that bucket regardless of ticket type.

Thanks for posting. Interesting that they won't be selling passes at the ticket booths. I have unused park hopper tickets that I wanted to upgrade to a pass, and planned to make a trip to the booths this weekend. The FAQ says it can all be done online. I suddenly have visions of my future this week :badpc: . I hope Disney IT is ready for this Wednesday's rollout...

Haven't seen the answer to this yet. Has any confirmed about the upgradability for the 2021 military salute tickets, we've used 2 of the 4 days. Past years we were able to, but no official info for this year.

I read on facebook that only 1 gift card can be used. I have a stack of gift cards as that is how I normally pay for my APs. I was planning to take them to the ticket booth to use to buy the AP (or maybe buy a 1 day ticket and then upgrade it to the AP. Now I don't know what to do? I know there used to be a site to combine gift cards. Does anyone know if that is still available?

Regarding upgrading a Park Hopper to a Key...

Most sources I have read talk about upgrading a Park Hopper on or before the last day of use. I was really hoping to be able to upgrade my PH before my trip (still unused) and then snag my same reservation days. Am I reading this first bullet point correctly...I can upgrade my PH online/in the app before actually using any of the days on my PH? That seems to fall under "wholly, unused...applied any time."
