Magic Key Program

I have one tentative trip on the books this November -- I think I'm going to keep to ticketing (and buy/reserve before August 25 when APs go on sale again) and watch the behavior of the reservation caps by my more intrepid Disboards colleagues.

I'm hoping I'll be able to upgrade to a pass on my last listed day.

Okay official terminology, tickets can be upgrade to the new pass:

"UPGRADES: A Guest wishing to upgrade to a Pass from another form of eligible Disneyland® Resort theme park admission media must upgrade on the same day in which the original form of theme park admission media is valid, and must choose a Pass of equal or greater value than the retail price of the original theme park admission media when it was purchased. The difference in prices must be paid in full at the time of the upgrade. If an upgrade to a Pass is made from a multi-day ticket, the Pass will be backdated to begin on the first day that such ticket was used; if an upgrade to a Pass is made from a lower level Pass, the new Pass will have the same expiration date as the original Pass. Each guest wishing to upgrade their theme park admission media to a Pass must be present at the time of the upgrade transaction. Fully used, or partially used and expired, theme park admission media, complimentary ticket media, special event ticket media and ticket media stating its ineligibility for an upgrade may not be upgraded to a Pass. Upgrades are subject to Pass availability. Downgrades are not allowed. "

We usually go for 5 park days......so in between and that includes a Sunday.
Might just keep the tickets we have for Sept.
Enchanted blocks two of our days when we go with DGS......so I guess tickets it is for awhile and we'll see how things play out

Well, it’s not terrible, I guess. If they were aiming for “how can we offer a little less and charge a little more without making everyone super angry” then they NAILED it, at least for me.
Is this amazing? No. Is it devastating? No. I expected they’d offer fewer option for more $$. I thought a Dream tier equivalent would run around $1,600.

Very similar thoughts here. When I saw the pricing I realized they "wanted" to avoid the implication of gouging. But then I remembered how fast these prices went up, every year, just in the last 5-7 years. Pushing over 10% pops at times, if I recall. They can adjust these very quickly (up or down) as it gets traction.

Also the real control is in the buckets. They can adjust them at-will with a few clicks. And they will count on the higher tiers to soak up capacity when needed (and I'm sure they will!). This is already happening at WDW.

I hope this goes a long way toward managing those crowd surges that can really spoil a day (or evening) unexpectedly.

We are booked to go Aug 17 and 18 and then Sept 13 and 14. We bought the California Residence ticket and using that the 17 and 18 and then Sept 14. We have Party tickets for the 14th. I thought about getting this for the September trip but its not worth it because I don't think I will go again until next year. We will wait and get it maybe in January for a birthday trip for my GS. I am happy about the monthly option for us because it makes it a little easier to get multiple passes. Sorry for those of you that don't like that option but we are happy. We live in Northern CA so we try to go 4 or 5 times a year.

So, any ideas on how this might affect park crowds in September? I have a trip planned sept 12-17th and was hoping APs wouldn’t come back til after. Will it be crazy? Wonder how restricted the reservations will be. And does this mean reservations will stick around for everyone or only APs? So many questions…so few answers.

But then you won't be eligible to receive the special must-have welcome package, limited edition pin, magnet, and special map! LOL!! (has to be purchased in the first 66 days).

Thank you for posting this! We have a three day ticket for September and are planning on upgrading to keys so I’m glad there’s something that addresses this.

As a non DL person, how does this compare to the AP in price. So I guess Dream vs. AP. Wondering for what to expect increase wise with WDW AP.

Where did you see 90 days? I’m making myself nuts trying to find how far out the Key lets you book - is it 90? Or 120 like other tickets?

You're right, I can't find 90 day terminology for booking windows on the official material. That 90 day window was on the rumor page.

The only mention of a 90 day window is the no-show policy. Anyone else want to chime in?

A little late to the party, just want to confirm we don't have the Magic Pass calendars yet, correct?

Did anyone see anything about trading current tickets up to the Magic Key Pass (MKP)? I really need to trade some of these up to purchase or I will have to wait until I use them to get my MKP.
I will probably do the Dream Key this year as its the last year that my kids are around before college. That way we can maximize the days we want to go. Then I'll decide for next year.

For that price, I better be able to book days to go pretty easily. I will be ticked off if I can't get the days that we can go.

That rumor page is the only place I can find it. For us as out of staters booking reservations at 90 instead of 120 would be a deal breaker.

Yeah, I'm not seeing any language about how far in advance you can reserve, so I would assume it's the same as it is currently for regular ticket holders.

Ugh we’re East coasters and our trip begins on 8/25. How screwed are we from a crowd perspective? I imagine everyone and their mother will flood to the parks on those first few days

So, is anyone surprised at how "basic" these passes are regarding perks? Disney sure did talk a lot about how customizable this program would be. It's really not at all. It's almost a mirror image of the previous pass tiers. It's like they completely changed course. It's a bit odd.
