OK, for reasons I won't bother getting into, our reservation number for my trip on Aug 1 has changed (against my EXPLICIT directions). We have yellow animal kingdom tags (where we are still staying), but they have our OLD reservation number on them. Disney refuses to overnight us new luggage tags. They told us to just use our OLD tags. I feel like this can't possibly go well. What would you do?

It's my understanding that at the airport, the luggage is only separated by area (i.e., AK, EP, MK, etc.) and then deliveries are made to each resort, with the actual reservation number not really coming until play until after the luggage already arrives at your destination, but I could be wrong.

Regardless, you only have two choices: (1) believe them, tag your luggage, and hope for the best; or (2) don't believe them and forgo the luggage service, so don't tag your bags and carry them onto the bus yourself.

As mentioned, you have two choices, either believe them or not.

I would guess what's important on the tags is the barcode. Do you have a barcode scanner on your phone that you can use and see what's encoded?

I don't understand why you thought YOU get to decide whether your reservation number changes.

Well, I will tell you why. I am a DVC member with points from 2 different home resorts. This reservation was originally made in the 7 month window. I asked about having the allocation changed from one set of points to another, but I specifically said, if it changes my reservation number, I do NOT want to bother changing the point allocation. I would prefer to just leave it as is. The rep assured me that my reservation number would not change and that they would not cancel my original reservation under any circumstance. After being on hold for 20 minutes, she came back with my new reservation number and said she cancelled the first one...

Further info:
We actually called magic express twice. The first person said "do NOT use the old luggage tags because they will come up as a cancelled reservation". When we called back right after to talk to another rep to see if we could get them overnighted and he said the complete opposite and that we SHOULD use the luggage tags, and that he was 100% sure of it.

Time to flip a coin.

Are both reservation numbers in the same guests name? I agree with the PP, my understanding is reservation numbers are used at the resort to match luggage with room number. Do you have a common name? So common another arriving guest might have the same name? I'd make a second luggage tag. Big. Write new XXX (name) resort reservation #XXXXX along with your name. Secure it to, or next to, the yellow tag.

I wouldn't blame the CM who probably had no idea the reservation number would change.

Guests without yellow tags are allowed to use inbound DME luggage delivery. You give details to the DME representative at MCO. If you're really nervous you could talk to the CM at the DME desk in MCO. Probably not necessary.

I would probably skip using the yellow tags. I would take my baggage tags from my airline to the Welcome desk at the ME check in & have them use those to collect the luggage & deliver it to my Resort.

If you aren't comfortable with ME possibly messing up, you can always collect your bags & transport them with you on the ME. Like what is done for flights arriving after 10pm.

No, you may not use last year's unused yellow Magical Express baggage tags, but "current" tags that have become outdated may be used.

Draw one line through any incorrect information (don't mark through letter codes, number codes, or bar codes) and write in the correct or updated information.

Yellow tagged bags are summarily removed to the resorts unsynchronized with guest movements. Handwritten information trumps printed information, although a discrepancy may result in the bag's making an additional stop or connection within WDW.

Yes, they are in the same name.

And yes, she did know because she cancelled the reservation. That ALWAYS results in a reservation number change. However, you do not need to cancel a reservation to change the point allocation. She just did it wrong.

These aren't last years. These tags were for my trip coming up Aug 1. However, my reservation number changed a few days ago, which "invalidated" them.

Yes, we will probably do that, but it will just add another 1/2 hour. We are getting in later in the day so we wanted to squeeze in a park day. Every minute counts!

Your making things complicated. Use the tags. Pack enough stuff in your carryon to hold you over until the next morning. Your airline could misdirect your luggage. There are some circumstances in which your resort might be confused and hold your bag until you call.

The only issue I see is if another guest has the same (or similar) name. If you're nervous check with bell services when you arrive. They'll know if another guest with a similar name is checking in and can be on the look out for your bags.

edited to add: For some reason I think I got a different reservation number when I changed from room only to a package a few days before my arrival. Not an issue.

My name is very unique. I don't believe that will be a problem. Thank you everyone so much for all of your answers. I just hate last minute freak-out things.

You can also NOT tag the bags then take your luggage info to the DME desk. They will have one of their employees grab your bags from the carousel and transport them. Very minimal extra work for you.

This would be my issue......you use the DME tags.if the reservation number is, in fact, different, then I would be concerned when the tags were scanned at the airport. The scan wouldn't bring up a valid reservation! At least, it's possible. I'm not sure I would take the chance. Yes, you can use them and hope that the correct resort and name are listed. I would just be concerned with the first scan. I'm not sure the people handling the luggage at that point are going to figure it out. Of course, they may just send it to the right resort and let the resort figure it out!

I would use them. Cross out the wrong reservation # and clearly write the new number on the tags in a black marker.

We have some tags that have different information on them because we changed our flight and DME info, I was assured by DME that it wouldn't be a problem. Really the barcode is what matters, but she also told me (and I have read this on the DIS before as well) that they can match the tags if you WRITE the new reservation number on the tag.

This is fine to do if you can write small and legibly enough to not interfere with the barcode. The barcode may still contain some pertinent info...so, cross out the old reservation number and with a fine point black sharpie, write in the new one...there should be room between the bottom of the blue MM head, with the resort area listed, and the big barcode at the bottom of the tag.
