Got some Disney magic to start our vacation. Arrived at mco and the lines were long for dme checkin. My kid was doing the floss dance and a cast member came up and stared talking to us. He asked my son to dance again then told us to follow him. They put us in a suburban minnie van for our ride to ak! Nice way to start the trip! Free drinks and chocolates as well.

So I tend to hesitate to post this kind of stuff because it's how things get ruined, but we took a Minnie Van return to MCO this AM and were having general chit chat with the driver about where they'd be going next and the CM said it depends, if there's a close arrival booked they'll have them stay at the airport, but if no immediate trip needs they'll sometimes go to DME to do a magical moment as you described. Seems to me like a good use of Pixie Dust vs an empty vehicle heading back to WDW. Congrats OP, hope you're enjoying your trip.

I was wondering if that might be the case @GADisneyDad14 because it seems like a waste of resources to send a minnie van out to the airport and then have it either sit until someone has it booked for return OR have it go back empty.

I remember waiting in the Orlando Airport DME line waiting for the bus in my wheelchair for the next available bus. I was really excited about getting on the DME bus and arriving at Pop Century Resort. It had been a few years since I had been to WDW since I didn't have a car anymore.

I saw several buses come and depart as more guests arrived and departed. One cast member came by and said that a couple of the DME buses had broken wheelchair lifts. He directed me to a Mears van with a rear wheelchair lift. I was by myself and I thought that they would load some other guests in the extra van seats, but the driver says sometimes that WDW contracts with Mears. I guess the cast member was just helping since the other DME buses were broken and he said that I had waited patiently. It was only about 45-minutes and I told him no worries because I was on vacation and I was enjoying people watching as the other family members were so happy to be there as they walked on the DME and some loaded their strollers and suitcases. I didn't have to worry about suitcase since I used the DME option. I had a great trip.

Yes that is exactly what the driver told us. Better to give a magical moment than to drive back empty. He said he phoned into the dme reps to let them know he could take someone. The cast member who picked us was very clear that it was a one way trip! Lol
