We are flying into Disney the day before our cruise. We'll be landing about 5:30pm. Question: I am concerned about using the magic express for our baggage pickup and delivery to our resort. Should I just get our bags at baggage claim or do you all think it would be fine to let magic express do all the work? I realize it could be up to 3 hours before we see our bags. Just concerned about the lateness of the day.

Actually, it could take longer than 3 hours for your bags to find their way to your room. You could pack everything you'll need that night into one bag, and claim that one at the airport, and have the others delivered later. (If it's too late that night, bell services will hold your luggage til the next morning.

Magic express will continue to pick up bags from the airport much much later than 5:30 (I think until around 10pm) so I wouldn't be worried that they won't pick up your bag if that is of concern. If the concern is how late it will be delivered to your room, then yes, that is a concern. We've landed at 4:30 and not gotten our bags until after 11. Delays are pretty common. They will get there EVENTUALLY but it wouldn't hurt to pack some pjs and toothbrushes in a carryon.

Disney says (or at least used to say, it's been a few years since I last used DME) it could take 3 hours after you arrive at your resort for baggage delivery, not 3 hours from when you land. I've found that to be pretty close to accurate. We had one trip when we landed a little after 7:00pm, but didn't get to the resort until after 9:00pm and our bags got to our room a little after midnight.

They will pick up bags up at the airport until 10pm. With an expected arrival at 5:30pm, I would just use the luggage service, but do pack anything you need that first night in your carry on.

I would pick up my own bags and walk them to the bus

Agree. Whats 20 minutes if it provides peace of mind AND the assurance that your baggage won't show up at 10pm right when you want to get some sleep?

Pack light and carry your own. If you are taking DCL bus to the port, the pick up for bags is very early in the morning.

I would probably pick them up just so I know I have everything.

But always pack what you need for 24 hours on carryon. And if I were going on a cruise the next day I’d pack my cruise necessities in carryon. For me that’s swimsuits, coverup, and dinner-wear. Plus toiletries.

Thanks everyone. your experiences have convinced me to get our own bags for this one. Thanks again.!

For my peace of mind, I always get my own luggage and take the suitcases with me to the Magical Express bus. I want to know immediately if my luggage didn’t make it to Orlando. We had a trip to WDW last year, where it took over 12 hours for 2 of our suitcases to make it to our room at Pop, so I’d rather have my luggage in hand when getting on the bus.
