Hi there,

I have heard that it won't work if you are flying from Canada....but I could be wrong though, hope so for your sake.

so should it matter that we are canadian. we go across the border and customs here before we get there.

does that make sense?

We flew out of Toronto but I don't see why you would not be able to use the yellow tags.

ME worked great for us.

have fun!

Yes, you'll still get your luggage tags. We are from ONtario, but have flown from Buffalo and had no problem getting and using our DME tags.

We just received our second set of tags for our December trip that included the PIN certificate. The first booklet didn't have our flight information in it and when I called was told that sometimes it gets lost when the Magical Express computer downloads the information from the CRO computer. Since you are flying as a domestic flight you won't have any problems at all.

As long as Orlando isn't your first port of entry (ie. you have a stop over in the U.S.) you'll be fine....at least that's what we were told. We flew from Winnipeg to Orlando and had a connection in Minneapolis and we were fine.

Why would the tags not work. You just put the ME tags on before you check your luggage. When you get to Orlando your bags should be picked up by the ME staff and away you go. You'll see your bags in your room at a later time. :)

I am Canadian and just crossed the border and flew out of Detroit to MCO. We DID NOT get our tags in the mail before we went but just made the ME ressies and they took our luggage tags from us at the ME counter in Orlando, we had no problems.

However, before we left, the CM told me that if we are flying out of Canada, we couldn't use the luggage tags 'cause we'd have to take our own luggage through customs.

Luggage tags and Magical Express tags are 2 different things...

Luggage tags are for your return/home/origin name and address and you get them with your final travel documents if you purchase a package (mine just came in the mail yesterday! HUZZAH! They're hologramed)

Magical Express tags are the yellow barcoded identifiers that you have this service. Flying back in to Canada you will have to take your own luggage with you on the bus from the resort as you have to go through customs, but as you are flying back to Seattle as opposed to Vancouver, I don't see why not. The only thing is when you cross the border, you'll likely be asked if your bags were out of sight or possession and chances are if you send them with Magical Express, they were...

Personally, I have hired a towncar for round trip transfers becuase I don't want to wait 4 hours for my bags to "Magically" appear in my room and I don't want the hassle of my bags being out of my sight before I fly back to Buffalo and then cross back into Ontario. Call me paranoid, but I just don't trust other people and my possessions when it comes to border security...

thank you tone.def for your reply. i respect what you have to say, considering i am a customs inspector, that is really smart. we are planning on using me when we arrive but not when we leave as we will be renting a car for the second portion of our trip.

again, thanks. you make sense about border security...you just never know these days!

OK, Here's a question- why did we only get the yellow ME sticker tags, but my MIL got the ME ones AND some nice hard luggage tags too?

CAn't answer why some people get hard plastic tags and others do not. (we didn't get hard plastic ones)

WE did get two sets of yellow ME tags to put on luggage. One set arrived about a week before the other and I had thought they were simply replacement tags as our initial tags didn't have our flight information and I had phoned them with that information and then received the second set.

I thought they were replacements. Had I looked at them I would have realized one set was for our flight down and one for our flight home and left the first set at home and dutifully put second set on our luggage. Ooops. Turns out of course the first set was for our flight down and second set for our flight home. Caused some initial confusion when we checked in at ME desk at MCO but they quickly (and pleasantly) sorted out my error and even arranged for additional tags to be delivered to us for our return flight.

we found it to be a great service.

Like I said earlier, we didn't get any luggage tags or ME tags at all in the mail before we left but still had a great time using the service. There was barely any wait anywhere... and when we got to OKW, we went straight to a park so waiting for our luggage to appear wasn't a problem.

As for what tone.def said, on the way back, you bring your own luggage on the bus... you have it in your sight (or under the bus) the whole time. Then, you have to check it on your own when you check in with your airline carrier. All very easy. Not a security issue at all. As far as I knew, ME doesn't take your luggage and check it in for you on a return trip...

If you're flying on one of the DME "participating airlines", you actually check-in for your flight at the WDW resort and they take your luggage from you there. You get on the bus, and the next time you see your luggage is on the carousel at your home airport.

I wanna know when SWA is going to become one of the "participating ones"!

Do you check your bags with the airline?? How is it different than resort check in?

Misslissa I was told the same thing by a CM,but this is not true.We flew out of Toronto in Oct and we went through customs there. We put the yellow ME tags on before we left and did not have to pick up our bags in Orlando. However, as previously stated upon return if you are not flying with a participating airline you have to carry your own luggage back to the airport.Of course with a little help with the bus. :teeth: As for the ME tags vs hologram tags and who receives what the only thing I can think of would be that those who book packages through Disney direct recieve them. That was our situation at least. Hope this helps. :sunny:

The difference with checking your bags at the airport and being handled by personnel who have already cleared and gone through secure areas and having them shipped that way and the Magical Express is this:

When you are departing your resort at the end of your Disney vacation and you are using the Magical Express and you on their participating airlines - they actually take your bags from your room and you see them again when you land in your home destination - Buffalo, Detroit, where ever. You bags can and will be handled by bell hops and Magical Express personnel before seeing them again at the airport where you land. Your bags are therefore out of your sight before you and your possesions cross the border or clear customs.

While bellhops from Disney smuggling dope into Canada is probably not a problem here, my paranoia comes from my extensive overseas travel and a bag not turning up where it should of and never did and another one surfacing with half the possesions in it the next day from a similar type of surface as the ME, but probably not as well run... and no, I never saw my underwear and toiletries again and all the complaints and letters in the world will not get them back.

For my own personal security and so I don't worry about my bags, I'm not taking the ME this trip. I'm not saying you shouldn't because I'm paranoid and I want to answer customs honestly when I cross the border to come home.
I know I could take my bags with me on the ME if I choose to, but I choose a town car.

I hate to feed your paranoia (your description, not mine), but the risk you describe about someone putting something unauthorized in your bag can happen easily with checked bags. The baggage handlers are not frisked before (or after) their shifts. It's not difficult to put something in (or take out) of a bag.

Are you trying to say that those who load and unload our luggage onto the aircrafts are not screened through security at all going in or out of their shift? I find that hard to believe. If that was the case, I think Al-Queda or other such terrorist cells would have caught on by now and there would have been explosives and hijackers on a lot more planes...
