Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

Hey there,
Catching up on the many posts from the weekend.

In the past for the formal nights, I have used Disney's rental tuxedo service. Makes things much easier. I do own a tux, but it has somehow shrunk while just sitting in the closet. So I go the rental route now. I have not investigated, but I am assuming this service is still available.

To those who have made a Facebook request... If you could send me a PM with your real name so I can match them up. I am trying to only have cruisers in the group to help keep sensitive information from being too public. And as I have stated before, I think it is best if most of the conversation can be held at the disboards to make sure everyone is included.

Both of my daughters have joined the Teen thread, although one is not quite a teen, so she is posting under my ID. She has requested a disboard account, but because of her age, I needed to fax in a permission form. I did that Friday, so we shall see how long it takes.

Congrats to all who got their excursions!

Havana Cafe has my vote because I am feeling the nostalgia

And for anyone nostalgic for metropolitan France, there's a short list of des galettes, the buckwheat crêpes endemic to Brittany stuffed, Breton style, with savory or sweet fillings that include ham and cheese or ice cream with chocolate sauce.

I really am.:woohoo:

Yuuuuuummmmmmmmmmy!!!!!!!!

I studied in Normandy and LOVE  galettes!!!!

Hey Lisa - not really sure where she is going. There has been some discussion on the main board and people have heard both Virginia and Freeport. Below is the locator map I pulled up and it looks like she is going to Freeport but she is not moving very fast. She left PC last night around 7pm and the Wonder left today around 5pm and the Wonder is further south than the Magic.

From what everyone has been saying on the main board the majority of the work will just be routine maintenance and changing the drink station on deck 9 to be like the one on the Wonder. From what I understand the major repair will be to the damage she sustained while at CC last Feb.

I don't recall the drink stations being different, but it was a while since we were on Magic. What are the differences?

I'm watching! I love this show and I would love to go on it, but then I keep think that I might look like the two guys from last week and I changed my mind. Your DH sounds like he does a lot of traveling. I've been to most of those places but not all in the same week!

I'm watching, too! My two DD's (20 & 17) keep talking about doing this. They've inherited the travel bug from their parents. But, I think they would end up killing each other. :rotfl:

I'm really enjoying the shopping network ladies. They're a hoot!

PM comin your way now Thegales..had to make one last post to be able to send though..so sorry eveyone!! :confused3

I know I'm kinda late on this discussion...but been workin all weekend and catching up on posts. I have to agree with whoever it was that said it earlier in the pages...I give all the credit to Jordak and Milliepie for the pictures. But I went through ALL of there magnet ideas last week while I was off and picked out about....ooooh, prolly 50? Maybe 60 magnets to choose from? hehe :rotfl:
So I think tomorrow, Meemous and I are gonna sit down and choose the ones we want and don't want and then make our requests to the respective artists!!! LOVE the magnet things!! One of the best ideas ever invented!!!

I don't know for sure but I think the layout is different. Maybe someone who has been on both ships more recently can tell us.

Hi everyone -- I just decided today to surprise my DH and DD with this cruise. We have sailed the Magic two times before -- but it has been 5 years, so I have A LOT to relearn. I hope the ship is as beautiful as I remember and I hope the surprise goes over well...and that I can keep my mouth shut and get everyone packed and ready.

Last time we cruised I had it all planned way in advance, Palo, etc. I may just wing it this time. What I really need is to recharge my batteries and this seems ideal!

I can't wait to meet everyone and I was so excited to see such an active thread. It made our last cruise sooo special.

What do I need to know? Where should I start? Do we know what nights are what events yet? HELP!

I have reserved for 24 hours, but not paid -- as I read through I'm wondering if I am not getting as good a deal as I could. I am booking a Cat. 9 for $7550. No Fla resident or other perk...unfortunately. And I think only a $25. on board credit. I see where some folks have like $500. Are any of these available still??? That would be a huge help!

Also, I cruised before during Hurricane season, so travel insurance was a must. Is it this time of year? Thoughts?

Thanks for the input.

Well, first off...WELCOME!!!! Glad you decided to join us!! I'm sure DH and DD will be THRILLED when they find out you are going on the cruise!!

Start by checking out the excursions, (if you wanna do any), now..since we're 75 days out. It became a free-for-all as of yesterday and they are filling up FAST. Also check Palo ASAP too if you and DH wanna do it again.

Event wise-- Thanks to BigAWL posting it at the beginning of this thread... First formal night is Sunday the 19th- With the Twice Charmed show that night. Thursday the 23rd is Pirate Night. Saturday the 25th will be a beautiful day at Sea!! Which is our second formal night of the cruise. Monday the 27th is our Semi-Formal night with the show Disney Dreams that night. Also sign of for the Fish Extender list ASAP if you would like to participate in that!!

'Sides that..and I was mostly copying bigAWL's list, my brain is dead now. But nontheless, it will be a blast. Don't forget the Ship will be decorated the whole time we're on board and Santa will be in the Atrium on Christmas morning with his elves to give out small gifts with milk and cookies.

Hi!

Welcome! I'm so glad that you'll be joining us and amazed that you will take on packing for three people for 11 days in secret!!! I'd never be able to pull it off.

If you book through Dreams Unlimited, they can get the $25 online credit as well as give you a $150 credit for booking a category 9. That's a little better!

Hope that helps some. :goodvibes

Just looking at that map is making my SO excited! I figured that there would be no fabulous makeovers. I forgot about the damage the Magic sustained last February. What website did you get this fabulous map?

Too funny! Here in Iowa we do understand snow and conditions have to be pretty bad for them to call a snow day. It has to be un-drivable(don't know if thats a word) - icy, too much snow(like 6-10 inches), or blizzard conditions. Last couple of years has been pretty rough here. Of course I always love those days where they predict a really bad storm so school is called off and then we get nothing.

Last week, when temperatures were 100 plus, we went on rainy day schedule because it was too hot to let the students go outside.
Go figure only in California! Today, it is rainy, and 60 degree, but it was not rainy enough to be on rainy day schedule.

FYI: I am freezing!

I love my e-reader too! I will load it up before the cruise, but with three children, there's never enough time for me to read everything that I would like! I can always dream, and at least I'll be prepared! :thumbsup2

Good luck to all of you waiting to make your ressies tonight! I hope it all goes well. :wizard:

I agree there is never enough time to read books. I always say that I am going to make the time to read more, but the time just gets away from me.

I just got my iPad, and I am downloading all the books that I want to read while I am on the cruise. I love it...no more stuffing books in my my suitcase.

What books are you downloading on your e-reader? I have Eat, Pray, Love waiting on iBook as well as several Nicolas Sparks's books.

I generally get up earlier than my family. I too wake up at 4 AM at home so I do a bit of sleeping in, but then get up and either go to the gym or run around Deck 4. On our last cruise, I had just finished up a boot camp workout so tried to incorporate some of that while running around Deck 4. I do have to agree that it can be a bit chilly running. I did the CC 5K on our last cruise and had a great time. I am looking forward to running again. Anyone up for joining me?

Pam, we should make a few gym dates in the morning. This will help motivate me. Running is not a option for me anymore, but I would not mind doing a few laps with you around deck 4. At the gym, what exercise equipment do you use?
I prefer the treadmill and the elliptical.

Here's the sad thing...because I'm in the midst of completing my dissertation (I have my pre-defense next week) :surfweb:, I am downloading NOTHING right now and am so far out of the loop that I'm not aware of the new books. All I do is look at books all day long...just not the ones that I want to read! :rotfl:

Can you tell these boards are my escape when I need a five minute break?! ;)

I do love Nicholas Sparks and have been thinking of reading Eat, Pray, Love as well! Anyone have any "must have" books for those of us downloading? I'd love to have a list started when I finish up in November. That's when I will be packing and planning 24/7 :yay:

Congrats on the dissertation. What is it in? After my master's thesis, I knew I was done. I admire you. Will you be all done with school when we sail? Good luck!

DWTS is tonight! I am so looking forward to watching the stars tell a story. Jennifer Grey is 50! Wow, I am so impressed. She is in fabulous shape. It is going to be an interesting night.

Who is your favorite? Who do you want to go? My favorite is Baby, and Situation must go!!!!!
