Magic Bands

Today, I brought an old MB that was turned off and not connected to my app (although it had been previously). I was able to use it at the 70th ticket kiosks and at the castle interactive. All of the tickets printed had the MK greeting. Even though it didn't show as paired/connected on my app, and wasn't turned on, the kiosks still recognized it as belonging to a MK holder.

I tried to use it at Bounty Hunter but was prompted to turn it on. Once I turned it on, it worked. I did not need to connect or pair it to my app. Note, I did not participated in the hunt. I just checked the first station to see if it would let me play.
Thank you! Seems that the borrowed MB will do the trick for what I wanted it for. It seemingly working for the bounty hunt is a plus in case that is something that my travel companion is interested in doing.

I wasn’t agains buying one if needed but would rather save the $35 since I know I wouldn’t be using it again for least 2 years and who knows if Disney will update the tech and make the current ones obsolete before then.

We’re taking our first DL trip in two months. We’ve been to WDW several times. Our kids have MB+. My husband and I have regular MB because they still work at WDW. I read online that old MB don’t work at DL. Considering buying MB+ but they’re expensive. Do they do all the same things at DL?
1) do they open the hotel rooms?
2) park entry?
3) LL I read is a yes.
4) anything else fun?
I don’t want to spend the extra money unless it actually lets me keep my phone put away (which I’ll still need to book the actual LL…)

4) anything else fun? A few 70th interactive activities. They light up on a very small number of attractions, and during entertainment.
I don’t want to spend the extra money unless it actually lets me keep my phone put away (which I’ll still need to book the actual LL…) It doesn't. Your phone will be out to book your LLMP, mobile order, etc. If you screenshot your ticket and have it pulled up before you enter the LL line, it is just as fast as a MB.

Firstly thank you for the response!
Second - I am so surprised by the hotel doors!
Another question: can I set it up so the kids use their MB+ for LL and my husband and I use our phones?
And for using the phone, does each person need to scan their ticket at each LL? Do you scan each ticket? Or just one ticket for the whole family?
Thanks again!

MB are linked to a ticket. So the kids can use their MB+ and your husband and you can use your phones.

If you want to scan in for everyone, you need to have all tickets on your phone, scan one, swipe to the next, scan it, swipe to the next, scan it, etc. When I am standing behind people who are doing that, it seems like it takes longer than if each person scanned themselves in. Plus, having each person scan individually eliminates a party of four hovering around the scanner.

We are a family of four and each have our own MBs. We save a ton of time scanning in LLMPs with the MB rather than me using my phone. We breeze around the groups who are using phones or the one person scanning in everyone. It’s a must for us.

I prefer using MB especially with multiple people. One good thing is that you can have your phone safely tucked away before getting to the scan point. Prevents fumbling it onto the pavement while trying to hurry and scan everyone in while people behind you are trying to wait patiently.

4) anything else fun?
If you are doing character photos or anything involving a PhotoPass photographer, they can scan the MagicBand instead of the code in your phone app.
And for using the phone, does each person need to scan their ticket at each LL? Do you scan each ticket? Or just one ticket for the whole family?
Each person needs to be scanned in individually. Each kid could scan in using their MagicBand and you and your husband could each scan in on a phone. The other way to do individual scans is to have all of the tickets on one phone so one person is flicking/scrolling through to scan in each individual person.
