I know it has been discussed and people have used their magic bands at Aulani, but if you buy new magic bands to use at Aulani can they be activated there? Or does just linking the band to a person make them active? I would like to give the kids a magic band to use for incidentals while at Aulani and not have them about having to keep up with cash or a gift card. Honestly I can't remember how bands were activated at Disneyworld.

Magic Bands need to be liked to the individual's My Disney Experience account. In addition, the Aulani reservation needs to be linked to that individuals MDE account.

If they are under 18 they can’t have their own MDE account. They are listed under my friends and families account though. They can use their magic bands for purchases at the parks but I have always used them with a resort reservation and never really paid attention to when they were activated for purchases because they had park tickets attached. Each had a PIN number

On another magic band note- today I had a cast member argue with me and tell me that magic bands are not authorized to be used at Aulani. This was at the booth for pool wrist bands and towels.

We have been here since Wednesday. At check in the cast member saw our magic bands and told us they should work everywhere though not officially rolled out yet. We’ve used them for our room, parking garage, to pay at both gift shops, Ulu Cafe, Off the Hook, and every day for towel and wristbands for 5 days. He didn’t seem to care when I pointed out the inconsistency.

It's not worth arguing over...just walk away.

We've been at Aulani for nearly four weeks...our Magic Bands are linked and they do not work. Not a big deal...

I didn't argue. It’s just frustrating when we have used them like everywhere and one person has an attitude.

That’s odd. I did have to go back into MDE and make sure they were active. Something happened in my account and it marked like 10 of my bands as “lost”. But they’ve worked for us everywhere.

Just got off the phone with them and I was told that magic bands do not work at all. Not at the pools or unlocking the rooms. We head there on Sunday and wanted to know.

They worked for us perfectly. Much easier for the kids to get to the pool and back to the room than a card.

However the cast members still don’t know about them. We just used them without telling the cast members and they worked as long as their machine beeped and was happy they didn’t even say anything. But as experienced above their is always that one person who wants you to follow their rules and when that inconsistency happens at the end of the trip it is annoying to have to go back to your room an search for your key card.

so if magic bands are working and I have everyone listed as family and friends on my MDE account - they should work for room doors and pool without extra front desk set up correct? I mean if I bought NEW magic bands for Easter and put them in their baskets, the kids would be able to get into the pool and open the room door without having to be set up at the front desk.

I wish that I could set them up for purchasing stuff without the front desk setting them up but I will go with room door and pool working without the room key.

We just returned this morning from a 2 week stay and our magic bands worked great everywhere - room door, pool for wristbands, purchases at the stores and quick service. They were old magic bands from a November 2019 WDW trip. I went into MDE ahead of time to make sure they were all active, then logged into My Aulani and made sure rhat the reservation was linked and all of my family members were listed. It was awesome not having to dig around for room keys and especially great for the kids.

There is so much confusion about the magic bands. Would save the resort having to hand out wristbands everyday. Going for the first time in June, but doubt they will have any definitive answer by then

Same- we just got back from 10 days and we used them to pay everywhere: Ulu Cafe, Off the Hook, Makahiki, Olelo Room, the snack shack, the shave ice place, dole whip stand, all 3 gift shops, towels/wristbands and to open doors and parking garage. The front desk cast member saw my husband wearing his at check in and said "oh you have magic bands- they should work for you everywhere." At Makahiki our waitress saw he was wearing a band and went to get her card reader like they do at WDW and scanned it at the table. So, other than the one guy we had no issues. Carrying a room card is a pain.

has anyone purchased new magic bands and had them work? where do you get them? We head to Aulani in 10 days.

There aren't special Aulani bands, just buy Walt Disney World bands like you would from ShopDisney.com and link them in your My Disney Experience account. You need to be sure that you're My Disney Experience account and your Aulani account use the same email address.

I'm so bummed mine didn't work for me. I lugged my 3 favorites across Hawaii! Guess something wasn't connected.🤷‍♀️

That's so funny. I call daily for a cabana res and I ask about the bands, and not once have they told me that the magic bands are accepted. They are adamant that they are not!

If I have a CC associated to my MDE account and assign all the brand new/never been used before magic bands to the people that are on my friends and families list that I manage and give everyone the same PIN code as me (mine has been used before at the parks) will they be able to charge to the room with their magic bands? Or will the magic bands just be able to open the door and use at the pool area?

We went last year and were all connected up in MDE and still none of them worked. We found that they were working for some people, but not for others. I'm not sure there is any rhyme or reason as to why they do or do not work...

I wonder if that's why they still haven't officially rolled them out yet: glitches that they can't figure out. There was a graphic that showed that they were officially coming... and then they never did. We tried in January and there was no love for our Magic Bands. But I'm going to try again next month. I even have my Aulani themed MB that I got just for the Resort. One day it'll work... one day...
