Many, many myths floating around about MBs.
The “truth” seems to be that the various individual “RFID systems” in use are inconsistently compatible with the myriad tiny MB internal circuits. Since each guest and CM can eventually find “workarounds” to remedy the various problems, there are plenty of “beliefs” that can be repeated among those who discuss these things.
No one remedy is a cure all for every MB issue.

I thought I'd use this to piggyback with my MB question. I have two stays coming up - a 1-night and then a DVC rental.

MDE is showing me two options for choosing MBs based on that.
I know that, for instance, if I choose one for myself but not for my kids (on a typical order), that's the end of buying before I arrive.

Does anyone know - if I use the option for one reservation, will the option for the second disappear? I'd like to go ahead and get the basic bands that I am planning on (but I've also been waiting in case MB+ comes out, which I doubt it will).

Each reservation is separate when it comes to ordering MB. So you can order for everyone on both reservations, decline for some and order for others on each reservation, or decline for everyone on both reservations.

Thanks! I also have been weighing getting them the Droid Depot MB but designed and bought a skin so I am getting plain ones. And, I do totally realize there is no reason my kids need 2 MB at the same time

That's not accurate.

• The door entry, park entry, point-of-sale payment all utilize the passive (externally powered) RFID, no battery is needed
  • The power for this functions comes from the reader devices (door locks, paymnet pads, MB readers at park and ride entry, the hand scanners used by CMs, and the post-ride photo tap locations), not the MB
  • The MB must be within a couple of inches to work
  • These functions should all work indefinitely, unless the RFID is damaged by a power surge or similar
• Ride photos and other interactivity use the *active* (internally powered) RFID
  • The battery in the MB gives the signal a wider range of a few feet to interact with readers place "on track" in rides
  • These functions cease after 2-3 years when the battery dies

That's what I have always understood how they work.
