Magic Bands/ lost children

Um I'm a CM and have called parents before. Cast members are allowed their personal cells now (have been for at least 2 year) we just aren't allowed to use them on stage. I have handed my phone to a lost child and have even called the parent myself. When you have a crying child next to you most guests realize what is going on.

Also I have used my personal cell to call 9-1-1 because the company phone was broken which I was specifically direct I am allowed to use and they even have a word for word what the first sentence should be if and when you have to call from your personal cell.

Now if you write your information on the child they need to know to present that information to the CM. I am not allowed to take off shoes, look on clothing tags, take buttons off and look on the back etc. Now if your child comes up and says I'm lost here mommy's cell is on the back of my magic band then I can ask them to take it off and hand it to me. At that point I radio my manager let them know I'm with a lost child and I have the parents information so will try calling them. There are hundreds of hidden phones all over property that I can use if they don't want me taking my personal cell out.

You are welcome. Even if the CM who finds your child can't call because their managers are more strict they can at least take the child to a location with a phone and let the child call all the while the CM should have radioed their management and after about 10 minutes management will call security.

For my area we also do a walk about if we have a lost child. We ask the child if they would like to hold our hand and ask where the last place they saw mom or dad. We walk them there and then ask what direction they thought they were going and if they had any plans.

Not all areas will do walk abouts but 9 times out of 10 Mom or Dad is still standing exactly where their little one was last seen or with seeing distance calling out their kids name.

I have to ask, why not sharpies on skin? Our dds aqua club has used them for years and I never realized it was dangerous.

They are not dangerous, per se, but they are not medical grade markers, not approved by the fda, and are not tested nor manufactured for use on human skin. If someone uses them on skin and breaks out in a rash or other adverse reaction, the first thing they are going to do is call Sharpies consumer affairs and complain that they want Sharpie to make it "right". Sharpie very strongly stands by their products and while the ink components in sharpies are largely nontoxic for the average person, they are not meant for use on skin. They are awesome for use on so many other things...Sharpie recommends using them in a million and one other ways and leaving your skin alone. Lol

Question, DD will be 4 and has mild autism. She is verbal but tends to 'loose her words' (her phrase) when she is uncomfortable/upset.
How is a non-verbal child handled (i.e. a little one or a kid who can't talk for whatever reason)?
We are drilling DD on what to do (find an adult with a CM id) and we are taking all precautions (she's not a bolter but I don't assume that will always be the case) including id temp tatoo/wrist band, a 'leash' and we will have her stroller which she will probably use a lot but it will be our first trip with her so I am nervous.

Usually if a non-verbal comes up and is that little someone will probably ask if she is lost and hopes they shake their head yes.

I suggest you pin something to her shirt if she will allow it. Make it all princess and glitter if she likes that kind of stuff. Put a small sentence or two on it just saying I'm lost and am nonverbal. Teach her that if she gets seperated to go to a CM and point to her special name tag.

Also not to over generalize in any way but teach your kids to go to a CM like at an attraction or in a store. For some reason every time I have seen a lost child go to a custodial CM they have no clue what to do and either ignore the lost child or take them to an attraction near by.

Thanks for the info and advice! We'll be sure to add a non-verbal note and make sure she understands to show it to a CM.
We've been scripting her to go to the nearest store/ride and get a CM I'll try to make sure she gets it.

Also non verbal and children with other disabilities go to baby care instead of guest relations if we can't find their party.
