Since their names are attached, can the magic bands be used to reunite a child with their family if lost? Trying to decide if we need to use the safety tats on this trip. Girls are older, but don't have our cell #s memorized.

In theory maybe but there haven't been reports of that happening. The bands don't store info on them they are just a means of accessing a person account. I don't believe most cm actually see what's on the acct. they would have to find a cm with the ability to actually look at the account associated with the band and then at other accounts associated with it to find the parents information. This would all take time, if they even can/will do it. I would just get the safety tats. That way you are reunited quickly.

Or you can put your cell phone number on the MB, since you can customize the identifier inside. Instead of a name, put your cell phone number.

I was planning to do this, but the character limit on the band is nine characters, isn't it? Not enough for a ten digit phone number.

Eventually, someday, I hear this will most definitely be a great way to NOT lose your kids.

In the meantime, you up your chances of the Magic Band working like a safety kit IF you are also staying on Property. I asked the CM who checked up into CBR last time we were there, and she said that our resort information, room number, AND the adult on the reservation all pops up on a resort linked Magic Band...in addition to that child's information that was entered on the reservation associated.

Even that being said, we explained to our kids what to do if they get separated from us. Look for a CM (we told them to look for their CM tags-and/or uniforms!), we used a safety kit as well.

We had tags (like dog tags) made when our kids were little with our name and cell phone number on it. We placed it in our sons pocket one year and we needed it. All 10 of us were walking to our lunch in Italy from Mexico and it was so crowded and we lost him. We had told the kids only to go to someone with a Disney name tag and he went right up to the CM working the Kim Possible booth (at the time - now it is Agent P) right outside Italy and gave him the number and he called us. It was the longest 3 minutes ever....we were so proud of our son - he was very calm.

The last time we went, my son was 7. I wasn't to sure if separated from us how he would react.

A friend gave me a great tip. Write your name and number on the inside of their wrist with sharpie, then cover with liquid bandaid.

I've done this several times and it came in handy for my son a few times.

Could you write it on the inside of the magic band? Maybe write it on there with a sharpie and let it dry?

I ordered disposable bracelets from Mabel Labels like the ones you get at the zoo or attraction parks with the message: If lost please call: ###-###-#### with both our cell phone numbers. Since I have two daughters, I didn't write their name on the bracelet. For 1$ each (pack of 20) I thought it was worth it for my peace of mind.

Personally, I would never write something on the skin with a Sharpie. Those pens are full of nasty chemicals that will be absorbed thru the skin of your child.

I would think it would be possible. I know we went on several rides with FP+ where the CM would say Hi to my kids and call them by name after they scanned their bands. The first couple times it freaked them out and then they figured out that their name was flashing on the screen because of the band. So there is obviously a way a CM could scan the band and see their info, if they wanted to.

No. The bands will NOT be used to identify your child if lost. Also do not write anything on the child's band or clothing. CMs are not allowed to look for information on the child, so they will not take off the band or look at the tag the child is wearing. Essentially CMs are not allowed to touch your child other than holding hands. They also do NOT call your cell phone even if the child tells them the number. This is Disney policy. CMs do not carry phones, so they have no way of calling you. If you lose your child tell the closet CM and they will direct you to the location for lost children. Children get lost 1000 times a day. Disney is fast and efficient with returning your lost child.

I don't know if it's true or not that a CM can't look for identifying info on your child, but I don't think it hurts to use something like the Safety Tats. If your child is found by another guests, they could call you! And I have a hard time believing if CMs were presented with a cell number they wouldn't use it.

We're getting the safety tats or mabel's labels in case a helpful guest finds her, of course they should take her to a CM but if they see the number they may just call which could make it less upsetting for DD then being taken to the missing kids center.
I figure if a CM finds her they'll take her to the missing kids center and since we'll be with a CM after letting them know she is missing if that's the case they'll contact us through them anyway or we'll be taken there to wait.

Sharpies are amazing for a million and one different things, but not to write on children's skin with. Please don't.

Actually, Sharpie Fine Point (your typical gray barrel sharpie) markers are nontoxic, but still not made for human skin. They are not harmful, but are not tested or recommended for skin/medical use per Sharpies consumer affairs department. Sharpie Magnum and paint markers contain different chemical makeups than a Sharpie Fine Point and REALLY should not be used on skin.

I have to ask, why not sharpies on skin? Our dds aqua club has used them for years and I never realized it was dangerous.

Um I'm a CM and have called parents before. Cast members are allowed their personal cells now (have been for at least 2 year) we just aren't allowed to use them on stage. I have handed my phone to a lost child and have even called the parent myself. When you have a crying child next to you most guests realize what is going on.

Also I have used my personal cell to call 9-1-1 because the company phone was broken which I was specifically direct I am allowed to use and they even have a word for word what the first sentence should be if and when you have to call from your personal cell.

Now if you write your information on the child they need to know to present that information to the CM. I am not allowed to take off shoes, look on clothing tags, take buttons off and look on the back etc. Now if your child comes up and says I'm lost here mommy's cell is on the back of my magic band then I can ask them to take it off and hand it to me. At that point I radio my manager let them know I'm with a lost child and I have the parents information so will try calling them. There are hundreds of hidden phones all over property that I can use if they don't want me taking my personal cell out.

Good to know. Thanks for sharing. Makes me feel a little better if one of mine ever gets separated from us.

One of the greeters at the BC told me last yr of a lost hysterical child that was too upset to talk in the lobby, child was taken to front desk, band was scanned & parents were called. This may be easier at hotel of course as they have hotel info right at their finger tips vs in the parks.

We are allowed to break show for safety. A lot child is a safety issue so we can and good CMs do break show for it. We may also break courtesy and I have seen it happened as well. A mom was distraught and wanted run off and find her kid but we had to get sterm with her and make her see she is no good to us if we find her kid and no one can find her.

If your child is lost you also need to go directly to a CM. If you are close to one go straight to Baby Care or Guest relations.

Every once in a while when kids get lost and a GR finds them in the park they radio up front that they have the kid and then take them on rides but that rarely happens. I've seen it once in two years with the company.
