Magic Bands info for the new test dates in August

Online check in is, unless I'm missing something, only allowed 10 days prior to visit. So at least I haven't done it yet.

So MB and FP+ do not require it at this time.

It is way before 10 days out now.

Just called the IT line from the email. This is what the agent said word-for-word: "You will absolutely be able to get regular FPs from the machine if you have been chosen for the beta testing in August". I then asked him if I would be able to just insert my AP into the old FP machine, and he said yes.

Who knows? :confused3

Online check-in has been expanded already to what appears to be 60 days. I've already done mine, and I'm still several weeks out.

However, they do not appear to be linked, but more likely it will be a convenient time to get everything done in advance.

Just received the bands for myself and my son. We're arriving at the Contemporary in 24 days. No email or snail mail as of yet. I would hope that I'm part of the test and they didn't just send me the bands for the heck of it! I'm pretty interested to se what the technology is all about.

Our bands came today too! No invite and no notification or shipping status. I was able to customize them but Disney told me that was a fluke.....and here they are?

I've wondered if getting the magic bands and doing Fastpass+ meant you had to do online check in. So are you saying that is not required? That I can get my bands and schedule fastpass+ attractions without doing online checkin???

I haven't done online check-in, and my bands arrived today.

So I saw one poster say they were @ POP and another @ contemporary, forgive me I'm @ work only read the last few pgs! What other resorts are testing this Aug...my trips in Sept and I'm hoping I get to try it

I don't know if it is a rumor, or just supposition on our part. F&W could be a big win for a convenient small payment system...which is where some of the "guest spending increase" is supposedly coming from. And it is a somewhat slower time that the beginning of August or the holidays - a good time to get the kinks worked out but with a wide audience.

I do know that when I spoke with the Disney IT people last week, they were pretty insistent that the plan was to have it up and running by end of FW.

Whether that is just anonymous (or is it anony-mouse?) CM speak, or straight-line truth from the powers that be, we will have to wait and see. But I did get it directly from an IT tech, so....

Thanks for all the responses regarding online checkin versus waiting to check in regarding ability to order magicbands. I guess the consensus seems to be that it just doesn't matter one way or the other.

Good to know!

My son is staying at Pop. I was on the phone with IT yesterday. I heard from them that the August test was Pop, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Yacht Club and Contemporary.

My son is going and my daughter is going but my daughter is staying at the WL and she can't participate. Not sure how one will use it without the other, but that's our problem!

This is leading me to believe that FP+ and FP- will in fact be linked at all levels for now, and likely using a common pool (although FP+ might be "capped", depending on the size of the tester base and the potential to "exhaust" FP at least during certain time slots - need to prevent "time jumping" while getting FPs for a group).

It will also take at least an existing unused FP+ reservation much like it would take a previous FP you've taken and were still within the exclusion time. It would be interesting to see what a kiosks prints, both before and after you've used your last FP+...

This is so frustrating. I just got off the phone with IT and they told me that you can use FP+/- on the same day. I used the scenario of getting a FP- for TSM at RD and then a FP+ for night time. I was told fine yes for the test yes. I was also told that on check in they would get the KTTW and have the MB that was shipped to the house.

My son is getting Magic Bands. He has not done online check in yet.

So do you think we will have to wait until the August test is complete before finding out about further tests or rollout information? A complete guess I know but we are booked for October and may have to do a split stay. I would rather be all in or all out if that makes any sense. :lmao:

I had to go back and see what I had responded to...

But I rescind my previous supposition given than in the last 4 days we've gotten diametrically opposed (and everything in between) responses from CMs about FP+/FP combo use during the upcoming tests, that there is no way to know if any of it is true... :)

As optimistic as I am about the 17 day letter and the idea that all guests in said resort at said date will be a tester, there is a part of me expecting to see a post on 8/2 from somebody showing up at a test resort proudly displaying their customized bands and being told that they were not part of the test. Just sayin'.

I think that anyone in any test group shouldn't be relying on what did happen or what they were told, because they're in a test group, and things can change day to day and hour to hour. Disney IT could be planning on fiddling (sorry, not an IT pro, don't know what the technical term is!) various back office functions of MM+ and FP+ to see how the system responds during this test. It already seems that selected testers are having varying experiences from day to day--what they can and can't select, how many changes the system allows and when, etc.

The big unknown factor of all this is why I personally wouldn't participate...I have no desire to be a test monkey. I have no desire to willingly volunteer to see if the system works or not. If it's forced upon me come October during our next trip, so be it. I've never been an early adopter of technology--I don't need the latest and greatest, preferring instead to wait for bugs to be worked out so when I do adopt a technology it will stand a great chance of being error-free. I am easily frustrated, especially when something doesn't work as advertised, so I'm not a good candidate for this. And it's not that I resist change, I just personally like to know what those changes are ahead of time. Right now, FP+ is really a big black hole.

Ultimately, I think that people are setting themselves up for disappointment and frustration if they go into the August testing assuming that the parameters of prior tests are going to be the same for them. I really think a "wait and see" attitude is what you need to go in with.

I hear what you're saying. I was thinking the same thing. But, since Disney did go to all the trouble to ship the bands and is doing nothing about denying me access to personalizing my choices, I remain optimistic. I think the letter is not so much to tell people. "Congratulations! You won a chance to be a tester!" rather than a letter to people that haven't even logged on to MDE much less these boards. I'm sure there are tons of people staying at the four resorts that have no idea anything is being tested so a letter will be going out to them so they know they need to log in and personalize. Why they don't send the letters out all at once is the only thing that worries me...but not all that much.
